How very sweet. I had a pygmy hedgehog as a classroom pet in my second and fourth grade classes. Fluffy was such a sweet little thing and tamed very nicely. She kept her quills down and let the kids love on her and pet her. She really didn't like to swim much. It was pretty lucky for this guy he was rescued!
My friend also had one and named her after Jan Brett, who always draws hedgies into her books! We kept having problems with them getting tumors, so after our third one, we gave up on hedgies. We could only purchase ones that had been bred locally, not found in the wild and imported.
Can those born in the wild be kept for a pet? I know that there are breeders that sell them here in Minnesota and they cost about $150.
A good rest will give him/her power again. Adorable :)
Poor little fellow. He looks so tired and seems to need his nap. In Germany they always tell you to just take them inside in autumn when their weight is under 500gr (1pound?). In that case they have not fed up enough to get through their wintersleep there are several animal lovers to whom you can bring them. They do a great job cuase it is time consuming ;o)
Good luck for this sweetie...
wow so darling but so dangerous too, thanks for sharing a real picture of one Sarah. Hugs
Oh how sweet! Wish we had these cuties in my part of the world.
Thank you Sarah for showing us,I have never seen one of these.Do they have quills like our porcupines? or is it the fur is just wet? He does look like if he wanted to, he could scratch you up, sharp claws.
Ahhhh......how very cute. I'm glad she rescued it.
So cute! There have been possums looking to cool off in pools here in Australia with the drastic heat wave we've been having.
Where do you live? I thought these crtters were made up.
WE are in South Africa. I live in Knysna and my daughters both live in Johannesburg.
Was the hedgehog cooling off in the pool? It's toe nails even look sharp but it is really adorable. What will she do with it?
I think he probably fell in and who knows what Emma will do with it. She and her sons are great animal lovers..........
