That's not cobwebs I can see on that ironing board, Mrs.P. ?
Ha ha ha! Now, now, Dennis you know I just love to iron and the board is permanently in my room. I usually have it standing up as you know and I couldn't resist this animal print cover. Come to think of it, it does look like cobwebs under the bear's tummy!!!!! Love Chris
Amor Chris
Chris, looks great must be a large room, mine is only 9x10 so having trouble fitting everything in. need a design for placement. Hugs
Chris, thanks for sharing your sewing room with us :-) I'm having such a hard time getting back into my own sewing room since Christmas. I know it needs a total reorganization, but for some reason, I just haven't been inspired. I think I have finally reached the point where I do just have too much "stuff" in there! I also have my cat collection there, and I love to combine sewing and cats. OH What to do? I feel so serene there, I think I just need to spend some time without any pressure to get something completed.....
Looks nice and tidy. My space is in the living area after we moved so I have to keep it straighten up. Sometimes I think it was easier to find things when I had the stuff all spread out.
Hi Anita, yes, I found that when I was out in the back room. Am so happy to have places to put things now! Love Chris
Looking good Chris. I also tried to clean up, moved some of my fabric from another room into my sewing room and sorted out some of the draw space in my sewing room. It never ends. My room is getting to small for all the goodies. Hugs Yvonne x
I had a big clean out and took all the things I don't need anymore to our local Op Shop. It's great to have a clean start. Love Chris
looks great! I'm still working on mine! Have to be inventive to fit it all in a small space - slowly getting there! whew! quite a task isn't it!?
Hi Linda, yes it's a task. It took me all morning just to move things around. It was hot but I took my time. Love Chris
Wow, so nice...and so tidy! I don't think my room has ever look this neat and tidy...and I don't think it ever will...I am inspired to perhaps try to tidy up my space...but not sure that I will actually do it...your room is beautiful!
I'm lucky Kim, it's a great sized room and I love being in there. Thanks for commenting, love Chris
Um ... once the sewing starts will it still look like this? Perhaps it would be better to leave it all neat and tidy and take on some other hobby - like scrabble or reading........ (at least for a month or two).
Hi Pat, I don't read, takes up too much time. I do however, love crosswords and cryptic ones which aren't too hard. Love Chris
Chris, have you ever tried listening to a good book while you a sewing something? It's great as long as I'm not trying to sew something too difficult :-)
How well organized, spacy and just a pleasure to be in there.
Please do another picture in - let's say - one week or so :-)
Love and Hugs Maria
Hi Girls, it must be that time of the year. Love your room, Pennifold.
I am in the process of moving my sewing room from the smallest bedroom to the middle one. Even now with boxes and tubs everywhere and a dining table (which was in here as Hubby has the dining room as an office & it was supposed to be a cutting table for me but was always snowed under stuff) and an extra chest of drawers and a computer table - I have more free space than I had before. I have my Brother 780D on a rolling table similar in size to the one under your printer. It is the only machine able to be used at present, if I can find the stabiliser that is. I used a tip I saw on BHG the other week for hiding my power cords. Fold them up, loosely, and push them into a towel roll centre. Those are low power cords that are not used often, of course. Not too sure about the fire risk of ones in constant use.
My first purpose use sewing room was the same size as yours. Your layout is great. Hope it gets messy soon. And the weather gets cooler for us all.
Thanks Patricia and welcome to this great site. I just shove my cords under the sewing table! he he he! Love Chris
Mary (highlandermom) found the Antique Rooster pin cushion - it's sitting right next to the Brother Sewing machine. The little blue FSL one hanging off the fan was a gift.
I went to Meg's today - it's been in the mid 30's here but it was nice and cool in her place. We had a lazy day and ended up watching Twilight - Breaking Dawn. So nice to sit and just chat. Love Chris
HAVE ANY OF YOU FOUND THE ANTIQUE ROOSTER PIN CUSHION YET? Love Chris
I had to come back see the rooster, well I should have seen that. Right next to your Brother machine. He is very nice.
FANTASTIC. What a lovely big room you have. A job well done. WIsh I could say the same, my stash overwhelms me - I can barely walk around all the stacks of fabric!!
Thanks Deb, I have some more out in a cupboard in our back loungeroom too and some inside that wardrobe with the threads in them. Mostly they are inside those plastic boxes in the cubby holes on that cupboard next to the computer. Good luck with yours. Love Chris
You look ready to hit the ground running. Have fun.
Yes, I walked in there this morning about 5.45am (Trev was up early as he was leading a workshop at 7.30 and had to leave at 6.30) and I thought to myself, this looks great. I'm so pleased it's done and I can MOVE around easier. Give me a day or two and it will be messy again, don't you worry. Love Chris
Nice and neat! You have done a wonderful job with your space.
My sewing room is a mess again. I think it would help me if my family did not use my sewing room/office for everything...broken toys, paperwork they need in a safe place...It seems if they do not know what to do with it -- it goes in my office.
A major "clean and organize" is on my list of things to do. However, I must need to post a "No dumping" sign too. LOL
Now that's a good idea Rescuer, I'm sure you could make a sign and put it on your door saying "No dumping". As we are on our own we have 3 bedrooms with no-one in them. So Trevor has taken the end bedroom as his office, I've got the Master bedroom as my sewing room and the back bedroom is our Grandchildren's room when they come and play/sleep over etc. The bedroom downstairs is our Master bedroom now and that's great as it has double doors each side. Love Chris
I agree - my sewing room is a meeting point for the family - seems they feel very well in all the mess and add on some more mess. My ironing table is being used for eating snacks, putting on it the laptops, even the cat (sometimes) like to ly there and watch my little television. Have been thinking to use the big living room instead for all purpose and sewing room and family meeting. It would give us more space...only what to do with guests? Have dinner in the (previous) sewing room
With a smile - Maria
Love your space! And I am inspired. We are building an extra room on the house right now (my fabric stash needs a place to live!).
Now that's my girl, I like your thinking! You can never have enough fabric, right? Good luck with the room.
I think Deanna (camylow) had her husband build a whole room for her and it's gorgeous. Love Chris
Looks Awesome would hate to mess it up now lol hugs
Oh! this was only after I'd cleaned it Carolyn. Once I have stuff sewing there are things everywhere! He he he! it's just like everyone elses sewing room when a project is being done! Love Chris
wow, you did a great job, well organized. I should have to take an example of this. ...and I will not show these pictures to my Hb. Because the saying : "A clean desk is the sign of a sick mind" does fit better in my hobby room....
Ha ha ha! I've heard that saying before too Gerry. It's made it much easier to move around and that was my main issue. When I had the overlocker out (it's inside the little cupboard under the sewing machine) when it was under the window it squashed me in if I was at the computer. Now it's great!!! Love Chris
Chris this is super. Now, please please, please, would you like to visit and sort out my sewing room?
Have fun sewing
Oh, that could be a full-time job, visiting Cuties and making them see the error of their ways.
Hi Carolyn, I'd love to come over and help you out. I went down to Meg's to help her initially and we still have more to do. I'm off there today and the temperature is expected to be in the low to mid 30's. Poor Adelaide in South Australia is expecting 46c today. My cousin who lives in Adelaide just put up a post on FB saying HEEEELLLLPPP!!!!!!! Love Chris
Chris what a lovely area you have - I can now imagine you at your machines. I think you are very sensible to have your threads in boxes - mine are in draws to keep them clean and out of the light. Happy sewing!!!
Hi Sarah, yes, it's the old master bedroom. Trevor and I sleep downstairs in a 7metre by 4metre room which I think originally was the daughter's room from the lady we bought the house. It's made it a better layout this way. Love Chris
Looks great, you have those extra feet that I would love to have but I can't convince hubby to take a smaller bedroom so that I can have the master lol. My big question is where is your fabric stash, I can't see any fabrics and I know you must have them. I too like your iron board cover, I just bought myself a new one and I love it. It stands higher, is wider, has a place on the end to hold my iron and also a shelf underneath (additional space) to hold my projects as I get them to the final sewing stage.
So happy that my post is inspiring others, I think it is so important to feel good in our sewing/craft rooms. I hate clutter so it is important to stay neat.
hugs
Michelle
Michelle the second picture is my fabric stash. It's a cupboard on the wall. Each nook has a plastic tub full of fabrics and they are alphabetically filed, but I've always been neat and tidy. Thanks for the inspiration to re-organise. Love Chris
Looks excellent! For me the lighting is the most important. My daughter laughs that I hang a light whereever I want to! There are no rules! I can draw outside the lines! My sewing room is hard because I have a summer place which is away from the swamp cooler and a winter place where there is heat. I am constantly cleaning and organizing. I will find a better way this year!
Hi Chris, yes, the lighting is important I've got lights above me now instead of on my right. I can still see out the window as I have the blinds open throughout the day. I'm sure you'll get yours all organised too. Love Chris
Beautiful sewing room! I need some organization, maybe someday....... I love your ironing board cover too! lol! Currently in my sewing slash den, there's a tv in it with a couch for grandies to watch tv. I have a sewing closet which I'm outgrowing. Maybe this year I can get my stuff altogether.
Sounds like a fun room with the couch in there. Our grandchildren love coming in here as there are always lots of little "goodies" lying around. Love Chris
Oh to be so organized...I can only dream about it at the moment...Will show hubby for ideas for me....looks fab Chris...
Hi Kerry, this was the original Master Bedroom! I would love the thread board with the plastic baby bottle liners on Michelle's post. Love Chris
Very nice Chris, it put my little room to shame it's all i can do to stand in there at the moment have told my carer(daughter) we need to get into this asap.. love your ironing board cover..
Thanks Marian - well you will just have to get your daughter onto it straight away!!!!. It was so hot here today I was surprised I got so much done. Thanks for commenting on my ironing board cover it is cute isn't it? It has foxes, owls and bears on it. Love Chris
Dear Chris, what a lovely place you have for your sewing room! I have my sewing room too, but it is a mess at the moment. One machine is in repair shop, and I really need time to organize the room. Love your room! hugs and love, Yoriko
Hi Yoriko, I just got my machine back on Monday and as I said after reading Michelle's post I thought it would be great to get mine re-organised. Once you get started it's easy, plus it's a great way of clearing out things you don't really need. Love Chris
Woo, It looks fantastic, love your machines, is there two there I can see,
It is a lovely big room I have just been drooling over a new machine, may be this year, Hope you get loads of happiness from your sewing room,
and if we had everything we wanted, what would we have for Birthdays and Christmases.
Hugs pam.
Thanks Pam, yes I've got two sitting there at the moment. The Husqvarna Designer 1 is on the left and the Brother Quattro is on the right.
With regard to birthdays and Christmas I'm now asking for gift vouchers from my favourite sewing machine shops. Love Chris
Very neat room you have it looks spacious. Is that a rooster under the neat fan? I love your nice supply of hoops too.
Thanks Mary, it is a very spacious room - it's the master bedroom upstairs in our home. The little rooster hanging on the thread stand is an FSL one, not the one Meganne gave me. The one I've asked people to find is an Antique Pin cushion. Love Chris
Your room looks great Chris.
Thanks Shirley, Trevor just came in and said "Gee, what you've done has made the room look bigger!"
It is 4metres x 3.3metres or for the American ladies approximately 13.1 feet x 10.1 feet. It's a decent size and enough for me. Love Chris
