Theologically speaking all angels are men. There is only one reference in the Bible to a vague possibility that an angel might be female. However, in embroidery designs they are all depicted as feminine. How has this happened?

All this makes me suggest my thought for the day "All angels are men, but not all men are angels". Discuss......

you know the word angel means "messenger" most angels angel are warriors for God 2ch 32 :21 Is 37:36( here and angel slew 185,000 Assyrians in one night) no wonder when they are seen by people they are afraid.
in our embroidery designs they are just made to look pretty so we will bye the design.

I haven't thought much about whether my G/A is male or female. May be they come to us as non gender specific and we choose what they are. Your question reminded me of a dream, I think my G/A is a tall dark haired man of American Indian heritage from long ago, when I saw him he was dressed in beautiful white Indian clothes with a magnificent white headdress.
I think that we also have many earth angels they appear when we need help.

Interesting topic. I've been slightly disturbed for some time at the trend towards 'fashion-conscious' angels with beautiful svelte bodies. I'm pretty certain that my guardian angel is a big, strong, broad-shouldered, quick-thinking, many winged being, capable of rescuing me from my many crises and near disasters - one who covers me with one of his spare wings when my surrounds lose their warmth. No namby-pamby, my angel; his anger at my idiocies and his acceptance of my frailties gives me good reason to keep on trying to be and do my best. I'm pretty sure he trained and fought in Michael's army and he uses all his skills to look after me. My guardian angel has a personal army of 'helpers' whom he sends to pick me up when I fall, help me when they see the need and keep me safe to carry on with my life's work. These helpers are everywhere in the guise of humans - just ordinary people with kind hearts and average bodies.... nurses, aged care workers, youngsters in their first job carrying my heavy load to my car, medicos, long-haired loping lads with nose-rings who hold open a heavy door for me, store shelf packers with cheeky grins and cheery greetings when they see me and apprentice helpers disguised as grandsons.
My guardian angel is a busy creature, taking orders only from the Top and I'm pretty sure he was chuffed when assigned to my case.
Based on my sketchy knowledge of Archangel Michael's description dainty designs of feminine ethereal beauties don't fit the bill at all... they'd never last the distance with me.
Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.....

To discuss your quote.....
for the first part .... really, I didn't know that!
and for the second part .... fortunately, for if that were the case it would be an awfully dull existence for us ladies..... :}

Although angels of both sexes are mentioned in the Bible, we know that they don't marry because of what Jesus says Matthew 22:30:

For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like God's angels in heaven.

I think that may be why we issued the cross gender term of him, much like mankind, it refers to the race of angels.
The "jobs" that the angels were given when interacting with humans may be something that they can change to suit the message. It's one of the questions on my list to ask Him.

Now for the real question that you were asking: Women and children look softer and perhaps that is why the eye of the artist depicting these feminine angels chose that look.
Also, angels didn't just bring good news and they did bring plagues and pestilence 2 Samuel 24, so maybe all men ARE angels.
No offense to our male members....I don't write it, I just report it. ;)

First word angels speak is almost always Fear not, so I have always wondered why they are depicted as sweet winged babies or beautiful females.

I love your thought of the day. Fortunately mine tries to be a good imitation most of the time and i am glad he is not perfect as I am no angel either.

I believe there were female angels mentioned. Zech 5: 5-11. So there must be some out there somewhere. I know there are definitely ones on this site! Love and blessings Chris

Interesting! My thoughts are that Angels are not Humans but, like us, created by God. That being said, it does seem that the Angels mentioned in the Bible appeared to be male. I wonder if the Angels took on a masculine form yet more distinctive, say having an aura about them, when sent to Earth because males were the dominant of the human species. Remember what God said to Eve in the garden of Eden. Just my take.

You are correct Sue. Unfortunately, few people are knowledgeable about our Bible. Angels are hard working creatures God created just as we are created by Him. But many people are comforted thinking of angels as guardians and pretty.
