Wondering if any cuties own a quilting frame? If so what brand and how do you rate it.

how well do they glide when using, free and easy or hard.

I have the original Handi Quilter and for the most part was very happy with it. Queen size is the largest that I felt I could do but for the smaller ones didn't have any trouble getting it rolled up & fitting through the throat plate. I was amazed at how easily it guides along and like anything else the more you use it the easier it gets. I got where I could do a twin size in an afternoon. No room for a big long arm and this was a good soultion-esy to set up,etc. but it too takes a good sized table.

I also have the Handy Quilter 11. Keep in mind, it's not so much about the frame as the throat opening of the machine you are using. As the quilt rolls up into the machine opening, the distance that your machine can move is less and less. My machine has a 9" throat and can only move a short distance. Unless you can afford something like the sweet sixteen with the long arm, I wouldn't spend the money on it. The frame is nice and works good, but you need the right machine to get the best results. I should also say, you need a good 12-14 ft of space to set it up to do large quilts. We made a 14' table for it to set on. I have the entire lower level of the house as my sewing studio so I was able to leave it up when I was quilting. I took it down as I don't use it anymore. I just don't have the time for large quilts.

This is what I have. I don't use it too much because it requires a big deal at set up time as I guess all quilting frames do. It works really well, once you get set up.
My preferred method is fluff and stuff that I learned from Paula Reid. She has videos on You Tube.

I have a Handy Quilter. It is easy to set up but, needs a lot of room if you are doing queen or king quilts. It doesn't have legs so I have to set it on a table. Bought a piece of 3/4 inch plywood for larger quilts. My regular sewing machine works really well on it but, you only have about 5 inches to stitch. I am looking forward to a 13 or more long arm when money allows. Hope this helps. I also bought it second hand for a little over $100. I think I got a great deal. Peggy
