Does anyone's sewing room look like a tornado went through it...for some reason mine is out of control and I really don't know why...

I posted this 2 days ago, I haven't even made a dent in mine yet...oh good grief, I have 3 bags plus a pile that I am getting rid of so far...I will never use it...its going to mommy's house and what she doesn't want is going to the Senior Citizens Quilting group..

Don't be too hard on yourself. It's bound to be 'organised chaos' just like mine!!!

You are lucky it was only ONE tornado......try THREE. I find myself "hiding" the ironing in there as well these days. Lucky I can still close the door..... then it is tidy. heeheehee. Hugs Marg

My sewing room is such a .. no, not mess, but filled to overflowing. Even the thieves did not get my box with sewing money, as there was a stack of fabric in front of the drawer it is in!

O you are sooo not alone..mine always looks that way. I have tried and tried to clean it and keep it tidy without any success..my mind goes in ten directions at once it seems so I am constantly doing the "stitch and pitch" dance so my room looks like a storm has passed through it. I am trying to clean up after doing approx l8 costumes for a middle school play and with all the adjustments and alterations its just nuts in there..Best of luck to you in cleaning yours up!

gerryb by gerryb 15 Oct 2013

I shouldn't laugh at your break in...but when you said they couldn't find your sewing money for the stuff, I had to laugh! I "hide" my stuff when I leave the house in a pile of stuff!! Guess even a thief doesn't want to brave a woman's sewing room!!

emily16838 by emily16838 15 Oct 2013

I too hid money and jewelry in my sewing room. They will have to go through 1000's of yards of fabric.....sometimes I have trouble finding it. LOL

Haven't even had the time to get into my sewing room except to do the ironing & that is often done over a few days, then there is a new lot to do.

Glad mine is not the only one. But I do not think anyone's sewing room could have looked worse than my dear late SIL's. I just do not know how she ever made all the lovely things she did. Or even found the way to her machines to do the sewing. Shirley

Oh, I do know how you feel. Mine was worse, but I didn't get a photo. I spent one whole evening, on my hands and knees sometimes, and even got a needle in my bare foot, and folded and sorted. What helped a whole lot was putting on a favorite old book to listen to while I cleaned. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, because I really do love all the fabrics. Anyway, about 5 hours later I had everything back in their little places! It's a good thing I have a tiny sewing room. Oh, I do love it when it's tidy! Now I can mess it up again....

Hmmm, I have noticed that I have a lot of "piles" stacked everywhere...not a good sign...

When you can't identify what the piles are for, then you are really in trouble!

camylow by camylow 14 Oct 2013

tell me about it...I emptied a tote and found things from when I first started (unfinished) in 2006

cfidl by cfidl 14 Oct 2013

Hubby says every chair becomes a table! Lol! perfect to hold an 18" stack!

graceandham by graceandham 14 Oct 2013

My Mother always said making lists is okay, but lists of lists, not good. I'm a list person. P.S. To finish a lot of projects (hand or machine) list what needs finishing, and do the easiest one first. Put a big check by it or scratch through it, whichever pleases you the most. Then dig in on the next easiest item. Eventuallly, you'll find that you've checked them all off OR that you're sick of that list!

Yep. I'm a mess looking for a place to happen, and my own worse enemy. But you know the most famous picture of Einstein is the one of him with his hair looking like he stuck his finger in a light socket. We're all Einstein's ......LOL

I have a very small room in the house we are living in now. It always looks like a tornado went through it. Even when it is straightened up, I cannot make it look neat. I just do my best and bide my time until we move back home next year.

When your space is tiny, it doesn't take much to make it messy

camylow by camylow 14 Oct 2013

oh that is so true...my laundry so is teeny and it is the hardest to keep clean

Am ashamed to say it but mine got out of control. My eldest Daughter came down from Brisbane and spent 3 yes 3 days to tidy and organise my sewing Shed. Its a joy to go out there now. Have been busy now that we found my machines. Ps... There is hope

I tidy up one day and the next day is another storm, vicious cycle, really can't understand it. It is especially bad when I can't find anything and have to pull everything out to find it - one day I will be organised - HAHA
