I managed to wash our mobile phone this morning.Husband wanted the sheepskin car seat covers washed,so he left them out to be washed.I washed one yesterday & the other today because its supposed to be about 39C & would dry quickly.Went to hang it out & found the phone in the bottom of the washing machine, told husband & he reckons its my fault but he took the covers off ,so why didn't he take it out of the back pocket of the cover.

Now the phone is in parts hopefully it will still work after it has dried out.Husband dropped it on the cement drive way a few years ago & it still worked after I put it back together. The phone is over 10yrs old so maybe it is better made than the new ones

Hope you can do the real "clean" phone calls in future :-)

My favourite things to wash are my husband's innumerous glasses, the identy cards left in clothes by my children - and, so worse, the paper
handkerchiefs :-(((

Oh dear! I do hope it dries out and works after being washed. BTW, I am on your side. Not your fault.

RICE! Take it apart and put it in a jar or bag of rice and let it completely dry out before trying to turn on. Good luck. Phones really do not like water. Especially the agitating type.

I had little luck with this....water is one thing, but soap gums up the works....mine will turn on, but won't connect.

The rice trick worked for my cheap smartphone after running it through a complete wash cycle which sat overnight. I took the back off as well and removed the battery and memory card.
I let it dry out on furnace register, then packed in rice, paper

I've poured the highest percentage of rubbing alcohol in the phone and dried with the hair dryer (not on the hottest setting) Had good luck with the cell phone and a remote control jeep my son put in the swimming pool. If you see any corrosion use a Q-Tip (cotton swab) and baking soda to neutralize the corrosion. I shattered the touch screen on my cell phone a little over a week ago and the cell phone insurance overnighted a new one but it was less than a year old.

I have heard if you cover it with rice in a big jar, the rice will absorb the water...may take a couple of days...

the rice thing works only if you do not turn the phone on untill completely dry. needs to be totaly covered with rice for at least 24 hrs with battery removed and phone left open and back cover removed

killiecrankie by killiecrankie 10 Oct 2013

The front & back of the phone have been removed as well as the battery & sim card .All have been wiped dry& are sitting on the desk. The rest of the phone has been sitting on a cotton cloth on the windowsill .
The rice was used up a couple of days ago when we had fried rice

My brother put his iPhone through the washing machine. It took a while to dry out but it worked O.K. after its "clean".

Oh bother! Hoefully that was the only surprise today! as far as the phoneI think you might want to get a new one, water never does well with electronics! Except the new water resistant and I am still not sure it would survive the washer.

Have you seen the new commercials where a guy is getting held up at "gun " point for his phone, but when the robber sees how old it is he tries to give it back?

Lol!

That was exactly what I was thinking as I read. Funny.

killiecrankie by killiecrankie 10 Oct 2013

No, but this is why we leave it in the seat covers pocket & it has only a small amount of credit to use when it is needed while we are out.No one would want it but if it is taken no great deal

Bugger. The rule in my house is I do not check pockets & I don't turn socks the right way (I'm not putting my hands in something that smelly!!)
I have washed a USB stick that still worked. And I dropped a mobile phone in a pot of boiling water once. It worked fine and the person was still on the other end. Fingers crossed for you. xx

You were very lucky.Husband is always losing things & the answer is it is not in the bottom of the washing machine but I was very annoyed when nails turned up there

Hope it still works for you but maybe that was one way of telling you that you need to get a new one.
