I used 3 thread of varying browns/golds to make the hay in a stable for an Advent Calendar. The extra "loops" made the hay more realistic not to mention the color changes. I will take a picture to show. In my case the "tension" problem added to the project rather than take away.

Never tried it. I'd think you'd need a thicker needle, or rather a needle with a larger eye, and a looser tension (what you did). Certainly worth a try. A shame you don't have a picture of it. Thanks for mentioning this. **

I think you would have difficulty with the tension. I would buy the variegated thread already wound together, so it is a regular thickness. Otherwise it will be very dense.

I stitched out the "M",however, I loosened the tension to 3.8, and it stitched out beautifully. Hugs and a flower.

not have a variegated color in blue and green. I combined two threads of one blue and one green. I was very happy with the way the "M" embroideried out with the 2 colors.

We sometimes use 2 threads with ine needle on th Designer SE Follow the directions for threading in tension disks but have not had to change the tension. Works very well.

sorry for the typos. I have been unable to sew since last Thanksgiving from rheumatoid arthritis damaged shoulders. Had the left shoulder surgically repaired May 15. Dr. says close to 6 months to heal. Then he will replace the right shoulder for another six months healing. IT TEARS ME UP NOT TO EMBROIDER. I learned to sew on grandmothers treadle at age 6 now 79 so it has been a hard time not to sew or embroidery. I can't thread the sew machine or serger. The "ine" is ONE needle. Have to hunt and peck with one hand to type.

Wish you the best in recovery. Looks like it will be a long time.
