Noel Snowflake Coaster - For 5x7 Hoop<br /><br />

You will need one 6 inch square of batting, one 6 inch square of Fabric #1, one 6 inch and one 6-1/2 inch square of Fabric #2 for each coaster. Thread to match fabric #2.<br /><br />

Take 6 inch square of Fabric #2 and make a small slit in the center of the fabric. This will help when you need to cut it away for the appliqué in (Color #3 & 4). <br /><br />

Take 6-1/2 inch square of Fabric #2 and cut the square in half. Sew a 1/4 inch seam, leaving approximately 2-1/2 inches open in the center of square. This is the opening for turning the coaster right side out when completed.<br /><br />

Hoop a piece of tear away stabilizer. Sew Color #1 - Placement line<br /><br />

Lay batting, and 6 inch Fabric #1 (right side up) and center over placement line. <br /><br />

Sew Color #2 - Tack Down<br /><br />

Place 6-1/2 inch Fabric #2, Right Side Up, and center over outside placement stitching. <br /><br />

Sew Color #3 & #4 - Tack down run stitch then tack down zig-zag stitch.<br /><br />

Carefully cut away center of Fabric #2, using slit to get started, very closely to zig-zag stitching, careful not to cut into Fabric #1 underneath!<br /><br />

Sew Color #5 - Decorative border<br /><br />

Take the 6-1/2 inch square of fabric (with the 1/4 inch seam across and opening in the center) and place seam horizontally WRONG SIDE UP and center evenly over outline. Pin, if necessary at corners, being careful to keep pins out of sewing area.<br /><br />

Sew Color #7 - Tack down<br /><br />

Remove from hoop and trim around coaster leaving approximately 1/4 inch seam allowance.<br /><br />

Flip and turn right side out, press, and hand stitch small opening in the back closed. <br /><br />

Optional: I recommend top stitching in-the-ditch on the sewing machine to finish.
