We are on the same page, however for my dog it is the tall weeds and grasses. I wrote a list of herbs to make a tea - it says to not towel off. the base is peppermint or lavender or rosemary, also add chamomile, plantain and/or calendula. For acute areas an oatmeal pultice is used. Here is another web site that has additional information.

I agree with Carolyn use ta tree oil
i wash our dogs and then rinse then i make a solution of half a pint of warm water and three drops of tea tree oil and pour it over their coats.
this will also deter ticks and fleas and leave the coat feeling and looking fantastic,. do not wash off, but rub in and then towel dry
this solution is also good to get rid of sebatiouse dandruff in humans and done the same way

call your vet and ask for suggestions. Don't want Peeko to break out in a rash

Hi Carolyn,

Tea Tree oil is a wonderful repellant. Us Aussies have used it for years for all the creepy crawlies we have over here. I've added a website for you to have a look at.

Love and blessings Chris

Oil of Citronella helps but the dogs also hate the smell. I use Shoo Fly as someone else mentioned. Your vet should help with this.

They actually have a lotion in the skin so soft range for insects and I love it. I just absolutely Love the SSS oil to just have to let hubby know I have used in bath or he will surely slip over. Tea tree oil rubbed on doggy may also help or even been oil. Just something else to suggest.

Years ago we had a problem with flies biting our Westies ears & we used a product for horse & dogs that came in a pump action bottle.I can't remember its name but it was a pyrethem (can't remember how to spell it) based product .
Its winter here & the ants are still swarming ,try getting them out of a hairy dog.Gandalf is easy he is white.

Pyrethrum comes from the flowers of the daisy Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium and is safe to rub even on human skin. I'd forgotten about this one.

Brewer's Yeast and Garlic Tablets/powder put in food daily is a natural repellent for fleas, ticks, flies, mosquitoes. Does take a few days to get in the dogs skin but if you can't wait crush some and rub on the fur,

A tee Shirt Sprayed with Areogard (you know that keeps away Mosquitos) might do the trick and look cute at the same time.. Marian
