HELP PLEASE

Can someone tell me why my Brother 780D shreds thread, "LOOPIES" on the top of a design and on the underside/bobbin side of a design----I have tried EVERYTHING----It has been serviced by a "QUALIFIED" repair person--I bought a new bobbin case which she installed---it kept doing the same thing---then she said it was a scratched throatplate---which I ordered from her and she has NOT SENT (NOT happy about that)--could it be the needle--Schmetz EMBROIDERY---are the ones from Joann and/or Hancock any different quality than the same brand/type at WallyWorld????I normally use Floriani embroidery thread and Brother bobbin thread--I do NOT use C & C--also have used Sulky, Madeira, RobisonAnton---
I am just FRUSTRATED---have been embroidering for 10 years and now get an ALMOST perfect product and -----there is a ----- loop!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any comments are welcome
I SOOOO appreciate this site--so many questions I have found answered that I didn't have to ask--sew many ideas and warm thoughts and suggestions:):):)
Thank you--
Sue

ANN'S FIXIT PAGE has been a life saver for me. It's written for the ULT2001 or Super Galaxy BUT most Brother machines seem to be very similar. Have a look - it just might help. Lyn. xx

Are you using 90 weight bobbin thread in the bobbin?
You manual for your machine shows that is what came with it so I am assuming the bobbin tension is set for 90 weight Brother bobbin thread.

Take a piece of regular sewing thread and thread it through the bobbin tension on the bobbin case the same way you would if you had a bobbin in.
Pull the thread back and forth in the tension a couple of times and then pull it out.
This will clean any tiny bits of thread or lint that may be stuck in the bobbin tension on the bobbin case.

Whilst not disagreeing with anything that has already been said but I would certainly take issue with your service/repair agent, particularly as you have given the authorisation to have those parts replaced as advised. I find it quite incredible that a service engineer should return a machine in that condition and without one of the parts that had been specified for replacement. I do hope that you are able to resolve this matter to your complete satisfaction.

I make no promises that this will work but try it. Take a long enough piece of unwaxed dental floss and thread it through the top of your machine just as if it were thread. Be sure to cut it. You don't need to run the entire package through. Now pull the dental floss through the the machine (don't need to run it through the needle). It will catch any bit of thread or lint caught up in the tension where we can't see it or get to it. It has helped me to do this when I had some problems with what I thought was the bobbin. Best wishes for a quick fix. I know how frustrating it is.

You can smooth any rough spots or nicks in the needle plate by using Crocus Cloth which is a very, very fine sandpaper that you can get at a hardware store or paint store.

Have you determined where the thread begins to shred?
Is it shedding at the needle, or above the needle in the thread path, or at the needle plate or under it or at the thread spool/cone?

Loop are usually caused by the top thread not being in the top thread tensions disks right or the bobbin thread not being in the bobbin thread tension on the bobbin case right.

Perhaps you can run a design and see if you can determine where the thread starts fraying. Slow your machine down if you can as that would make it easier to see where the thread is fraying.
When threading the top thread in the machine make sure your pressure foot is up.

If yiou are using the small spools of thread you may need a thread net over the spool so the thread doesn;t come off the spool too fast.

You might consider using a separate thread stand to place your thread on rather than using the thread spindles on your machine.

Use a size 75/11 or 80/12 embroidery needle for 40 weight embroidery thread.

What stabilizer/s are you using and type of fabric for stitching on when the problems happen?

And I have to agree that the person that services the machine should give you or show you that the machine stitches right after they service it.
Don't leave the store until they show you how it stitches a design.

If the needle plate was scratched or nicked the service person should be able to smooth it out. The have the tools to do this.

Some plates are plastic and therefore beter to replace.

Most Stitch Plates that the needle goes through are metal.
The cover for the bobbin area is plastic on most machines.

I sounds like you're doing the right thing with needles and threads. I understand your frustration and I hope the throat plate solves the problem. Make sure they give you a stitch out that shows it worked for them.

It's difficult to diagnose a problem without being at the machine. Did your repaid person stitch out something to show you it was working? Or, if I understand correctly, she said that it was the throat plate, so I guess you will have this problem until it is replaced? I'd call her and ask how long before I would be getting this item.

Sorry I cannot help, but hopefully someone canThe person who service my machine always does a design which he leaves in the machine so that I can see that it stitches properly. I have a Bernina Deco. I can give you a big hug. HUGS from South Africa

Your repair lady might be right about the plate being damaged...this could happen when a needle breaks...this causes a routhness on the plate causing uneven tension.

Sorry to hear of your problems. Schmetz needles are not likely to be the problem as they are very high quality needles.. Sounds like there is something wrong with the tension. Don't think that one often sees the top thread looping. Think I might just contact the 'qualified' repair person and say how unhappy you are with your machine that after spending money with her that the machine is still not working properly AND that you are waiting for the throatplate.... Hopefully someone else can be more helpful than I am. Sorry but I have not used your machine

I usually use the Metro thread in my Brother. Seems to work pretty good, but when it loops up I pull the thread down to make sure its in the tension. Sometimes it is too loose and causes a problem with loops. Doesn' hurt to try. Good luck.
