This idea may not be new, but I found a great place to store the pieces and bits of thread. I recently bought a pretty (square) tissue box. Then because of a cold I had a very pretty -- empty box. Then I had my idea -- I grabbed my messy pile of threads shoved them into the empty box and they now have a lovely new home. The clear plastic on the top of the box helps to remove the threads from my fingers. Now, my vacuum will not have to work so hard as my messy thread bits are contained.

I have used pretty much anything, mostly of glass which I worry of breakage. I have a need right now, since I have been moving all my craft things and this will work perfectly. I even have one empty and available so the timing is perfect. Should I stitch an embroidered cover it will be a permanent fixture on my table.

That is a great idea to stitch a cover that matches your sewing room decor. Thanks

This is a good idea. I like to store my threads in anything glass so I can see the wonderful colours. At the moment I am using a canning jar with a built in pin cushion on the top.

That is very pretty! I am afraid I would break something like that in my sewing room -- as I often sew when I should be sleeping. lol

airyfairy by airyfairy 05 Mar 2013

I think you would have a job to break it as it is very thick glass.

Now, I can save all those threads for later use. Plus, I can have one near each machine.
