Well , I got a Brother pe 100 for $25.00 it needed the timing adjusted repair shop said it was toast ,not worth fixing. I brought it home took it all apart and them googled how to fix timing ,it took maybe 45 min. But it works great.i can't wait till Mon.so I can call him and ask how he likes losing money,I just knew it wasn't a throw away machine like he said.

Bravo for you!!!! He was just sure you would buy a new one! Only paying $25 for it you wouldn't be out much if it was toast but now you have learned a lot about the machine and the dealer's ways. Glad you were able to get it to work. Wonder when these dishonest dealers will learn we women don't take lightly to being lied to. You go Girl!

I'm so proud of you, you are a brave woman to take it apart I would like to take some classes on fixing the machines just for myself so I could do my own, the nearest dealer is 75 miles from me.

What a great achievement!!!!!!!

I hope your new machine works for a long time for you - no reason why it shouldn't. Well, you've had your $25 worth of fun from it already and I bet you learn't a lot doing it.

Good for you! Love to see someone brave enough to try it, and after all, if it was toast anyway, what could you have hurt? Tell him you can fix the timing on the "toasters" and will charge $XXX so send his customers to you. ;)

Sound like you could have a whole new career here. I know from many talks with my dealer that if a machine has not been bought from them they are often reluctant to repair. This is because in the past many have not been happy with the service costs. Many machine shops have a collection of repaired and uncollected machine that they have had for a long time. People who repair Brother machines have have had to undergo extensive training to do the work they do from Brother. My dealer is brilliant and I value the work done on my machines by him. I would recommend him to any UK Cuties.

They don't want to repair them but are more than happy to sell you their brand.

Sounds like the first shop I was dealing with. Unless you were spending thousands of dollar on a new machine he didn't want to give you the time of day.

Same with my Brother machine. My local dealer calls my machine a "Walmart machine" because I didn't buy it from him. What a jerk.

Singers are the same way. Repair shop charged me $150.00 to reset timing. Went online to a Singer site and for $20.00 got instructions on how to do it myself. It's a quick fix and certainly not worth what he charged. But then again he did say he threw in a free cleaning. Ha!
