My Hootie owl, place mat, I am Trying to do things to help when I start my 1st quilt, the design is from Inspiration Mutz. I put mylar under the top part. Hope he looks ok.

It is not too hard, you will do it easy as you do the quilting.
if you do the design and use mylar . be careful the bottom half looks ok with it.I had to do two bottom halfs. I was not happy.
