OT: ok my medically inclined friends what is a natural antibiotic I can take for my summer cold...I was thinking olvie leaf extract I have that here...got no lemons on my tree. I thinik I need hugs. DH has been is in hospital for 2 weeks just had a complete knee replacement and off to rehab for 2 weeks today also. He has a differnt pain now after 12 mths of excruciating pain from a broken tibia bone opp that went wrong..It was touch and go after opp with blood pressure problems up to 200 and down to 50 at different times. They got that sorted now thankfully.

I have run out of water at the main house, we only have tank water here.
I am unsure who to trust to give me clean water to buy it in….at the moment I am collecting buckets of water from the cottage down the back on my place…
We have had such a dry year this year to…we do have a spring but I only use that for the gardens..
oh well today is a downer but I know things will look up soon. Thanks for listening my friends...Love Kerry

OH Dear Kerry, sounds like you could do with prayers for rain.
I hope your hubby heals quickly and is back on his feet again without knee pain.
As for natural remedies I take Cenovis brand Horseradish, garlic and vitamin C tablets, one every morning to ward off colds and lessen the effects of flu. If I do get a cold it usually doesn't last more than a day and never becomes a full blown cold, because I increase the tablets up to 2 or 4 a day depending how it feels.
I have been telling people about these tablets since I was told about them in 1999, because I used to get so sick with colds and flu, but since I started taking them every day, I have NEVER got so sick again. (at least up until I had the chemo)
Cenovis brand are available in supermarkets (in NSW)
Hugs n love, Meg

Keep looking UP Kerry! God is Good! I Pray for your DH as I have been on that end, only I did not have to go for rehab other than therapy 3 times a week for a while. But I stayed at home & left my DH take care of me. Hahaha! Hugs, Judy

I'm on a regimen of echinacea, garlic, elderberry extract,
vitamin C, zinc and magnesium.

Ginger tea, peppermint tea, lemon and honey all very good
Menthol to open up the passages and of course chicken noodle soup.

That's a very good natural shopping list!!

grossfamilie by grossfamilie 21 Jan 2013

Oh yes, that is exactly what we use at home in case of colds. One more thing to add:
Please give your body and soul a good rest and have somebody to comfort you. This and the natural things are the strongest "weapon" to fight the cold
Get well soon - Maria

kezza2sew by kezza2sew 21 Jan 2013

Lovely words from you all. Oh I am resting, the mind wants to do things but the body says NO....I better get back to the kitchen and find some of these old fashion remedies....I do preferr natural any day.

Kerry, seems like the nasty "cold viruses" choose the worst of times
to pull us down! Hang in there; hopefully it will be gone soon! Take care of yourself! Your hubby is in good hands for the next several days at rehab. Rest and drink a lot! Here's a big hug for you!! Hoping you feel well soon!

Yes it is very dry, you should see the big cracks in the ground and deep also..anyway I guess it's just another day. So Pauline I hope you stopped off at our Bakery shop. they do the best cakes etc...one can put on weight easily there...hugs Kerry

Unfortunately a cold has to run it's course and try to avoid anything with caffeine in it as caffeine dehydrates you. Ginger is an antiviral so if you can put some in a broth or tea along with garlic it helps to clear sinuses and that stuffiness. Vitamin C should be divided up in doses about three times during the day. Being sick and having to carry water is awful. Praying that you get some delivered soon along with the filters. Lots of safe Hugs from me.

Yes I got a load of water delivered this afternoon, the dishwasher went on first..and got my filters for water jug, that is on now also. will take 4 hrs to filter through.
At least now I won't have to walk down the back for my shower either...yippee....taking in all good advice

You probably don't want an antibiotic because a cold is a virus and antibiotics won't really help. Studies have shown that people who take vitamin E are much less likely to develop a respiratory infection from a cold with vitamin E. Lots of liquid and sleep will work well too.
If your water is a problem, you might want to get a filter to run your water through to keep the "bugs" out of that. Nothing worse than getting a stomach or GI big to go with a cold!! Get well soon!!
