Sorry to hear that. I have heard several people say that the CD disk was empty. Try the memory sticks. I really like those. They now have some that hold up to 4G. Good luck in retrieving them. They should still be on your computer.
Thank you everybody for your input. Sorry I didn't get back sooner.I have tried the restoration program, been through my recycle bin ect.I did happen to get back 750 or so but I did lose about 3300 thats better than none at all.I am over the shock now & just keep on downloading. THANK you all very much *s 4 all
oh sorry for you, it is despairing!it must be a warning for all!
It show to all of us that we must copy all our new designs on a USB key each week
I am so sorry, I can die if something like that happen to me. I lost a whole file from Ann the Grand and that was awful, I can't imagine if I lose everything. Flower and XoXo
Sorry 2 hear about your lost...but I still see sunshine when the storm has cleared. Stay encouraged ;) *4U
I don't know much about PC, but I've heard there is a option to go back in days on your computer. So if two days ago everything was allright and the designs wer on your pc: you can go back to that two or three days ago and see if everything was there at that time.you make a reset by that day, it's worth trying.*4u, but when it was on a cd and you cd is empty now, i don't know how to fix that.
great idea Gerry I have done that before with reports and got them back my brother did it for me
I wish I could help, but I am almost computer illerterate. I do wish you goog luck.
Oh how awful I have external hard drive that I keep everything backed up on. Hope u can recover *4U
My filing system is a USB stick. All designs go straight there. Mabey though I should backup on Computer also. I'm another over 50 (dont know how to work comp ) user. :)
Debbie, Alway take your CD out of your computer after burning - close down burner - put burnt CD back in computer and check to make sure that all files are not empty or check CD out by using another computer.
My heart aches for you Debbie as I lost all just a few weeks ago ( only had them on a memory flash . ) Computer shop tried to retieve them Had no luck . So I am saving again in My documents then once a week back up on memory flash .Can I help you in any way
Debbie I am so sorry to hear of you trouble. Try to recover your designs as celticlady suggested and if that doesn't work try to look in your recycle bin . My fingers are crossed for you. a flower to cheer you.
Debbie, how are you doing? I hope you have found a way to recover your designs. Wishing you best of luck. Lois
also check your wastebasket/bin in case you have not actually permanently deleted them yet, I don't empty mine often enough but always can find things
Lynn
One more thing, as has been said, there are programs to recover files that have been 'erased' if they are not yet written over. When you erase a file, only the directory information pointing to the beginning of the file is really erased. These program will go through all of the information on the disk itself and reconstruct the files. Sometimes they will not get the original file name and you will have to look at the contents to see what the file really is. Also they will find a lot of files that you really meant to erase. But it can be worth the effort if that is the only way to recover. Wishing you the very best of luck on recovering.
For the future and anyone else, some comments from 50+ years of computing -
some learned the hard way, some from seeing others problems. Always backup as often as needed for anything you can't afford to lose. Make copies of the new stuff very frequently, make a complete backup copy regularly. Always keep at least 2 good copies of the complete information. If you are using a rewritable CD for example, rotate among at least 3 CD's. One for a known good copy, one for the copy you are making now, and one so that you make sure you are not writing over the only good copy if it turns out the previous one is bad for some reason. If your information is really valuable, make at least one more copy than these and store it some other place. Work for home computer, home for work computer, with a friend or relative! ( P.S. do as I say, not as i sometimes do. )
Oh dear, I do feel the pain. I have been backing up for a couple of days. Finding all these good deals, I have got to stay on top of it all and then try to get to stitching. I am doing the email backup and I know it will be there as long as I don't pull them in off the web.
What happens if the Website owners go broke or their servers are attacked by a virus or hackers? You could lose the lot. After all, their servers are just larger storage capacity computers. I wouldn't put my trust in them. sorry, Meg
My main server is at&t/bellsouth, with this you can have submailboxes, if it went broke, I would have no internet. No fear of virus, for no other mail is going into that box. Only for embroidery. It's not like a yahoo or hotmail and such, noone knows what that email name is, just a branch off of my main. I also backup on a cd so it's not my main backup.
If you don't eject or stop stick from computer thats when you can lose all saved files
I know I have done it ,
and you can lose info of CDS I looked at back up files CD from 3 years ago (nothing )
backup backup
Did you backup to the CD and leave the files on your harddrive? or did you copy to the CD and erase from the harddrive? I certainly hope that you did the former, but it sounds like you did the latter. Also did you always use the same CD or might you have another CD with a previous copy?
I am hoping that somehow you have another copy hiding somewhere. I have my fingers crossed for you! (And arms, legs and eyes as well - *grin*)
Took me two long tries to get my back up done last nite. but I'm all set again. I was up to 3 back ups/month, but now am really thinking of backing up every couple/few days with all the designs I download. My sympathy with you my dear. Did you use the same disk over and over? They have a habit of reformatting(erasing)what was on b4 adding more info. I lost lots of gr8 pics once that way when I thought I would "just add more" to the disc. *4U ><>
I've been there more times than I care to think about. I can't help with what you lost but I do know you can restore anything lost on the computer. If you go to Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore. Pick a date BEFORE the loss. Your system will restore everything back to that date.
There may be a way to get everthing back. Especially if you have not yet downloaded or installed anything new on the computer since you burned that CD. Google search for a program called "Restoration". It is a free recovery program that can possibly get your data back. Until that spot on your hard drive is overwritten it is really still there in memory. Any questions are welcome.
I am so sorry you lost your patterns! We all feel for you. Please let us know what you want us to vote for the get you going again. Don't forget about the bookmark section to help you. Wish I could give you a bouquet of flowers. ************4U
Im can't see what the "more" is but I can feel your frustration for having lost so much. I lost a lot before I learned more about a zip drive. I have since been able to get a lot of designs. Maybe not the same as I had but more than I have time to stitch out;) My reward in all of this is that I have learned so much more about a computer than I ever thought I was capable of doing. I sometimes feel smarter and talented. It is nice to have a "Happy Hobby" that teaches us as well. Good luck with your learning experience. *4U
Hi! the more is at the bottom of the page.Thank you for your thougts *4u
Do you back up to an external drive? My heart goes out to you. Maybe you can still retrieve them.
