What an amazing bunch you are. Your replies to my post about my machine dying bought tears to my eyes. My first thought was to try and get another machine like mine and to use the part I needed. Had long chat with DH last night and he thinks that as the model is about 12+ years, I should look at another second hand one with a hoop area larger than a 4x4. I have calmed down a bit today - it was just the thought of all the Christmas presents I still have to do. Now to answer some of your questions.

My machine is a Bernina Bernette Deco 600. It was first thought that the bobbin casing was at fault. It turns out that a piece of metal with a 'hook' has sheared right off. I have to ask myself, would it be worth the expense even if a part could be found? Last night I looked on the Bernina 'pre-owned' site and there is a very nice machine in East London. I am going to contact the owner today and see if it is possible to have it sent to me. I think someone asked where I live. I am in Knysna on the garden route in South Africa. Thank you all again for your kind words. DH says we will make a plan. Hugs to all. Sarah.

When you say a hook broke off, did it break off the bobbin case or something else?
I found a Bernina Deco 600 Bobbin case on EBay,
Item number: 160921511779
Now this may not help you, but the person selling it is one of the best informed people I have ever dealt with in the area of spare parts for machines and you could write to him and ask for his assistance, You can tell him, Meg in Australia recommended him to you. I just can't remember his name right now.
I do HIGHLY recommend him as I have bought hundreds of items from him and never had a disappointment. hugs n blessings, Meg

Oh Sarah what an awful thing to happen to you, I know how it feels because my Elna also had a hiccup the other day, fortunately we have a super service man that fixed it or I would also be looking for a decent 2nd hand one. I looked at new machines the other day and nearly passed out at the prices. Good luck with the machine in East London, I hope it brings the smile back to your face :)

It has worked hard for you all these years and you took excellent care of it. Happy you had a chat with your husband and able to locate another one. Praying they will be able to ship it to.

Oh sweetie, I also a Bernina girl . Buy what ever you feel comfortable. i will probably never have a new machine again, but I do love my 730.. It is the last model that will still take the old cards and it takes the USB sticks too. I just take my lap top to my sewing room and plug it into the 730 and transfer the designs and they are ready to stitch. Easy!!

This sounds like a blessing in disguise. A bigger & better machine. Yeah!! BUT I'm very disapointed in Bernina that they can't suply parts for a 12 year old machine. My last Brother was a 2003 model & my dealer told me there would be no problems getting parts. I've been looking at the new Bernina 780E but think this has changed my mind & I'll stick with Brother. xx
