Quite a while ago I sold my Janome embroidery sewing machine and bought a cheap brother sewing machine, I figured as I don't do so much sewing any more I did not need to spend a lot of money on a sewing machine. I love my brother pr embroidery machines so I thought that to sewing machine would be adequate. I was so wrong, the thread would break or slip our of the needle the feed was really bad and it was a nightmare to use. So I was sewing yesterday and getting a bit cranky with the machine and my husband said "wasn't that a $1000.00 machine?" I said "No, it was a $200 machine",he said "Well go and buy a $1000 machine." So i did, I bought a Pfaff ambition 1.0 O can't wait to have a play as soon as I get my one and only embroidery order out of the way.

hi Alice, yep you just have to face the fact that $200 is not going to buy a good enought machine [whatever the brand]. PS hope business picks up.

There are some good inexpensive machines just for the basics out there. I bought a $400 Viking for my niece's daughter and it does a great job. But, you do get what you pay for. I still have a machine bought 50 years ago, also bought for me by my father for $400 which was quite a bit back then. The stitch is really still great on it.

The old machines were made to last. I use to have a singer treadle machine that was converted to electric. you could use it with both treadle and power. That was when I was 12, we lost a part from the bobbin case and my dad took it to the dump. I wish I still had it, it was a great machine and awesome piece of furniture.

Bev I never say no. He has lots of expensive toys, I don't mind what he spends money on. He does often say to me "you get everything you want" My reply to that is "All is right with the universe." hehehe.

I really like my Pfaff. It is a 2140 that is upgraded to a 2170. I hope you have as much fun with it as I have had with mine. You have a great husband.

Smart husband - just like mine. Our Viking Designer 1 was 10 yeaars old and I was wearing out the tires taking it to the shop, so husband asks how much a new one would cost. I told him and he said that as much as I sewed and enjoyed it to get get the top of the line. So I did.
The Diamond is wondeful but I haven't figured out the software.
