Thank you all for the wealth of ideas you've given me. I think I'll go for the kitchen items. Seems to me to be the safest options as I don't know their taste. I'll certainly post before I give them away. Flowers for all of you.

I would Embroider (old English font) their names on WHITE towels with BLACK cotton. Also a f/washer & handtowel with a scroll in corner. Tie towels up with Pretty black & gold ribbon. Not wrapping paper, That way it will blend with any color scheme. Post what you make. :)

How about a bottle of wine and wrap 2 teatowels that you have embroidered around it i think that would make a wonderfull gift. Blue and white teatowels with bluework on them. Or a set of teatowels like he dogs of the week designs from amazing if u have them :) * 4 u

If you do go the wine route, make sure that the recipient would appreciate it. I know I wouldn't. First off, my religion doesn't allow for the drinking of alcohol. Second, I am allergic to grapes and any product containing grapes (so wine and even oatmeal-raisin cookies would be out). Third, I am nursing my twins, so that is yet another reason alcohol would be out of the question. I think that embroidered kitchen, bath or bedroom linens would be the very best idea.

Reason number 4: they live near a major wine area and must be far more knowledgable than I am as a non-drinker.

Thank you both for your suggestions.

Normally I would agree, flowers and a bottle of wine, but they live near the Mosel, a big wine area in Germany.

i like the answers you have received. I don't know in Germany if local restaurants have gift cards as we have in USA. You might offer to take them out to their favorite eatery.

I agree with the others, and see that you all ready have something planned - I have found that kitchen items, or something for bath are always appreciated.

Oh I think anything that you make yourself is great. Emboridery on some towels which is always useful for bath or kitchen.

mops, I think anything for the house that you embroider is a great gift. They will always remember your stay. A flower for you.

anything you'd like to make or embroider would be acceptable as you have taken the time to make something unique - I tend to embroider hand towels and face cloths for the bathroom as they as are always useful.

I agree with wendymay60 sounds like the perfect gift would be the tea towel. Ask your daughter what type of things she's into and then embroider that on the towel and POOF you look like a million.

Mops, anything you make yourself is the best. I usually embroider a Tea Towel (dish cloth) to wrap gift's. As a set I have done (sorry no photo's) A kitchen hand towel, a tea towel, a dish wash cloth, pot holders, oven mits & a apron. I have used the dish wash cloth as a thankyou card once with the verse on the cloth, other times a design on the cloth then wraped around a card or paper with a written verse on it. Have a great time. *4u

I now remember having a blue set of tea towel, kitchen towel and dish cloth, which would be ideal for the purpose. Thank you!

How thoughtful of you to do so - I think a nice dresser table cloth with lace would be nice for the bedroom chest of drawers or a pretty pillowcase set - with a nice embroidered design - of coarse. *4U

My daughter is giving a party in her second house in Germany for her and my SIL's 40th birthday, for being married for 12 1/2 years and to show off the house they've built. So many friends are sleeping in every corner of the house that she has arranged for us to sleep at the neighbours. People I've never met. I'll take flowers, of course, but any suggestions for something special? Party is the 31st. Thank you.
