OT Computer Help Please:

This morning when I turned on my computer the icons were scattered all over the screen and everything was much bigger than normal (appearance wise). Everything is chopped off at the sides and top and am unable to see some things I need to see. My computers is running Windows XP 2003...I've rebooted and restarted it several times and did a system date restore and nothing works. Does anybody know how I can fix this? TIA

Try to go into My Computer, then click on Display then I believe it is Appearence. You should be able to adjust the size. Good Luck, Susan

I have to manually put my icons were I want them...I like them arranged in a certain order along each side of my screen saver. I've got them where I want them now and all is right with the world..for the moment!

I have been trying to find where you adjust your display size...I haven't been able to find it....so I am sending it back to the top

Sounds like you hit something in error. In the bottom right hand corner of my computer screen I has a 100% with a plus on it If you hit the plus, the prinr/pictures will increase in size. On the othe side of the 100% will be a minus sign and it will show smaller numbers. 100% is normal and everytime you hit a plus or minus it will change to another size print. Since I do not see very well, I sometiomes have to make mine bigger print. If that is not what has happened, you will have to dig deeper with someone that is more experienced on the computer. The sizes are graduated like 150% ot 75% on way or the other. On 100% it should be screen size.

try to right-clik on your desktop (background) then go to Settings; best is you select resolution 1024x724. This works on all pc's. Then you can start to move size higher and each time you can see if it fits your pc (or your own wishes) or not. If you are satisfied with the view, click ok/Apply

1.
Open Display in Control Panel.

2.
On the Settings tab, under Screen resolution, drag the slider, and then click Apply.

3.
When prompted to apply the settings, click OK. Your screen will turn black for a moment.

4.
Once your screen resolution changes, you have 15 seconds to confirm the change. Click Yes to confirm the change; click No or do nothing to revert to your previous setting.

You want to choose bigger screen resolution numbers for smaller icons.

Thanks! rescuer & zoefzoef...that worked. But my icons still are out of place. But at least I can see everything now. Will have to manually move the icons were I want them. Stupid thing is I get soooo stressed out from such a little thing like this. I guess maybe I get afraid my computer is dying and I'm not able to afford a new one :(

Don't stress. However, you will probably want to run a virus check. Some viruses will adjust your screen. Programs (like some video games) will also adjust your screen settings. Anytime that happens, you will have to move your icons back.

No need to panic. Besides, there is always a way to get a new or used computer. You could trade your skills at embroidery for a computer. Many companies need logos done. Some would trade for a quilt that is personalized. Just try to relax.
