Do I have a problem?

I realised this afternoon as I was buying some fabric that I have bought fabric every day since Sunday. So today is the fourth day running that I have bought fabric. All has been bought in different shops in different places. So do I have a addiction that I was unaware of and do I buy more fabric tomorrow?

OMG I love all the replies to your question...I too have that serious disease..however, I don't know of a cure yet, so I keep buying...love the fabic market, wish that we had one here...but I guess than I would have to be admitted to a looney ward for symtoms due to fabricoholics....this made me smile thank you!

Yes and No!!! Yes keep adding to your stash so buy more fabric tomorrow and No you don't have an addiction. WE just love fabric......... That's what I keep telling myself but yes I have an addiction but I really can't speak for you. You will have to answer that one on your own. Juanita

No, not an addiction. You are merely streamlining your shopping skills. You need to make a map showing where the stores are and mark them in order so that you can hit one each day until you get them all and then start over again. That way you won't miss any.

I know where all the shops are and the 2 that have not been visited. I have travelled over 100 miles to achieve the 4 day shop as I live in a rural area and I have to travel for a choice

Yes! Yes! Yes! you are beginning to display early symptoms of a rather serious fabricaholic disease. This can last some sufferers almost a lifetime with little hope of a successful cure... The enclosed pictures of the Dutch Fabric Market which appear to be stashed between plots of "weed"; nefariously planted to distract attention from law-abiding agencies are most likely dens of inequity no self-respecting embroiderer would enter.

Stop! Stop now and save yourselves. and if you can't do that can you please let me know the addresses - purely for instructional purposes of course.

asterixsew by asterixsew 16 Aug 2012

The addresses are all UK, any use? Love your reply

I think you're just passionate about helping the economy. And others have said fabric shops are closing, so you're also helping them stay in business by buying from them. Yes, you obviously need to go back for more tomorrow :)

If the opportunity and the means say yes then who are we to argue? You know as well as I do there is the chance it may never be available again. LLDS!

It was not one place but 4 places. It would take a day to travel to each one over a day

Just think how expensive one round of golf costs! I bet it is more than your four days of fabric shopping :-) And ... you will.... eventually .... use the fabric to make thing to give, or to save you money!

I always use golf as a comparison as well. Works for so many things - fabrics, guitars, ukuleles, sweing machines......

Only problem is my husband does not play golf. Just swims...

You are doing what I call "incubating" an idea - or two or three. My guess is you have some projects in mind and those fabrics fit in someway. Or, they just made you happy! You may be addicted, but so am I - and just about every sewer I know! Go shopping again tomorrow - you never know what you might find! HE HE Jan

My problem is more: Where should I store it? All cupboards are packed with fabric. My solution: I need more cupboards *lol*

asterixsew by asterixsew 16 Aug 2012

This is also a problem for me:(

Why should you suffer all by yourself

by ansalu 15 Aug 2012

That's the reason why I try to stay away from the dutch fabric markets. Loose the control and only get hold when the moneybag is empty but nowerdays many of them accept EC-cards :o(
Feels like a gambler who would spend all his money at the gambling-table: No food for the kids but mother has new fabric...
Greetings, Bettina

Oh, no, I NEED to be there!! Bettina, can I come to your house, hee hee hee?

berny by berny 15 Aug 2012

When and where are they held,I want to go.

debi197 by debi197 15 Aug 2012

i would not do well in a dutch fabric market. I would never leave! and ladies, don't forget after the debit card is used up, there are always the charge cards.

just thinking positive here :)

debi

marjialexa by marjialexa 15 Aug 2012

After the debit card ran out, I'd put a sign around my neck, "Will work for fabric!"

spendlove by spendlove 16 Aug 2012

What a great idea. I think we should all go together. They won't know what has hit them!

ansalu by ansalu 16 Aug 2012

For those who have the possibility to make a short trip to Germany here are the dates of the markets now in autumn:

sounds like you are my twin sister, I love fabric. I love the fill of it under my finger tips, the smell of yards and yards of it in the store. Not to mention the colors. I can spend hours in my sewing room going through the purchased yardage from trips of the past, just sitting on the floor unfolding and looking at my fabric dreaming of items to make out of it. After hours of dreaming I careful fold it up, and pack it away for when I need just the right piece of fabric to make that something special. So the answer to question, Yes! go forth,my sewing sister, and buy the fabric all that you can. I'd love to see it too. Please download a picture of your wonderful purchases. I will not be able to smell it or run my fingers over it , but I will be able to see the colors.
Have fun shopping for just the right piece of fabric. BrendaLea

Oh, BrendaLea, I couldn't have said it better! Years ago, when my friend was still alive, if one of us was feeling blue, we'd both go to the fabric stores, feel & smell the fabric, and feel better!
