Oh my did another stupid thing. I went to Applique Corner and purchased some of the applique animals. You would think I would know better. I made sure I got 4x4 designs on all I thought. I put 2 elephants in the order and deleated one of them. Wouldn't you know I deleated the 4x4 and ordered the 5x7. I spent all I had for designs so can't get the one that a special little boy ask for. I ask them if I could resize the design and they said no. So not only do I have a design that I can't use I have a very unhappy little boy. Oh me I feel so bad. I offered the gator, the tiger, the bull dog but no he wanted the elephant.Oh well I guess it happens to the best of us but I hate to disapoint a child.

Oh my goodness I emailed them again and ask if they would consider sending me the other design for 4x4 and goodness they just said sure and sent it even though it was my fault. Now how fair is that. I just had to let all you wonderful people know how they treated me.

I was just closing some tabs after my computer crashed and recovered too many days worth. Here sits an applique elephant freebie. So if you are interested, try this one.

AnnTheGran had 28 different elephants on her freebie site at one time. I don't know if they are all still there, but it might be worth having a look.

Katulle has posted 7 elephants on this site. Perhaps one of them will work for you? They are all applique as well.

I'd try re-sizing it so you can use it, as Ricky said, and test it first. I really understand Ricky's position as a site owner, because people are just not nice any more, and think they should get everything for nothing. But, if it were my site and I saw what you ordered, and you explained it to me nicely, I'd just have given you the 4x4. Size difference: I can understand not wanting people to resize some designs, because large & small are digitized differently, and it may not come out well. But after they wouldn't give you the correct size, I don't think they should be so heavy handed as to say you 'can't' resize it. Maybe say it's unadvisable, but not forbid it. Actually, I'm sorry, but how would they know? Just do it. I am a staunch upholder of copyright, but I am also a believer in common sense, and in this case common sense wins. Some people seem to want control of everything to do with their designs including the colors even when you purchase them. I cheerfully ignore that kind of control-freakiness. I'm using the thread I have, not going out to purchase charcoal-grey-green because you specify that in your design. And if it needs to be made smaller or larger for the space it's going in, the size will be changed. And I remove all those tags on my mattresses that say "can't be removed under penalty of law", too. So resize it, see how it works. And be more careful next time. I like Embroidery Library, too, for that reason. I can't get a design larger than my hoop size, it tells me. I know how easy it can be to click on the wrong thing. Hope you get it solved, of course the child would be stubborn about the elephant being the only thing he wants, hee hee hee. Well, sometimes life's not fair, and you get an alligator. Hugs, Marji

Marji I'm not a native speaker so I have a stupid question: "if I could resize the design and they said no" Does this mean it is not allowed or that the design is maybe too dense and cannot be resized without mess it up?
I have once or twice resized full stitched designs from emb and had the feeling that the needle will stuck in there

ansalu by ansalu 12 Aug 2012

resized full stitched designs from emb and had the feeling that the needle will stuck in the fabric. The result was not very nice cause it was very stiff :o( Greetings, Bettina
PS: Never heard of designs with compulsory colors. Very weird and not my kind of business...

choice for designs...

mooie24 by mooie24 12 Aug 2012

depends on the design.. if fsl do not resize.. most other designs can be resized within about 10%.. but test first when resizing.. big hugs - maria xx

ansalu by ansalu 12 Aug 2012

I had some designs that get weird if you only resize 2% (or embird looked so and I was too afraid to test it). Especially when there are pieces with a structure (like one of the weddingcouples from katulle: the dress gets plain and flat when you resize it). Greetings, Bettina

marjialexa by marjialexa 12 Aug 2012

English is tricky, Bettina. "May I resize" is asking permission: "Can I resize" is asking if it is possible. Many English speakers don't recognize the difference, use "can" for both, making it confusing.

marjialexa by marjialexa 12 Aug 2012

I assumed Joann asked for permission to resize it, and was denied. I may be wrong, and she may have asked if it was possible. English is confusing at best, especially when not used accurately. But I do know some digitizers refuse permission to resize, for whatever reason.

marjialexa by marjialexa 12 Aug 2012

either because it can't be done well, or because they want to sell the design in 2 sizes. I really don't know what their reason is, I was assuming. That is a dangerous thing to do, hee hee hee

I'm sure there must be an elephant applique freebee somewhere...maybe if you do an ISO (in search of) in a seperate message here. Surely someone may be able to come up with something!

My Brother dealer does stitchouts for some customers in her big hoop. Do you know of someone who could stitch this on their bigger hoop for the special little boy? (don't have to share the des)

You really need to look at it from the website owners view point as well.
Because you have ordered the other designs for the 4x4 hoop does not mean that this is the only hoop size you have.
There are a lot of people out there that will try almost anything to get something for nothing. You could be one of them, and I am not saying you are, but
the designer does not know you, therefore can't depend on you to delete the wrong sized design.
This is not a small mistake in the eyes of the designer. If everyone did this, and the customer decides to keep the wrong design, or, worse still, give it away (which is illegal),then the designer stands to lose a lot of money.

As far as resizing the design is concerned, you have nothing to lose to try it out on some scrap fabric. The worse thing that could happen is that the satin stitch outline is not quite as wide as the original.

That's what I love at emblibrary: You can put in your hoop-size in your account-information and it gives you a warning if the size of a design in your basket is bigger than your hoop.
I'm not sure but I don't think that this happens every day and if a customer orders all designs for 4x4 the seller could assume that the design for 5x7 was a mistake...

ansalu by ansalu 12 Aug 2012

if a customer orders all his designs in the 4x4size the seller could assume that the design for 5x7 was a mistake...
To give the design is the right size is a nice sign of kindness. Not to forgett the positive mouth-to-mouth advertising ;o)
Greetings, Bettina

I agree it is not their fault. It is totaly mine. I can only hope they will send the right design but if not it still is my fault. It will just make me more careful.

mpo14011 by mpo14011 12 Aug 2012

Bettina, the saying, in English, is word of mouth advertising.:)
And yes, it is very effective.
But it is not a good idea for the seller to ass-u-me anything when selling something like this. In a real shop with tangible items it is a different matte

mpo14011 by mpo14011 12 Aug 2012

Got cut of before the word was finished. It is meant to be "matter."

ansalu by ansalu 12 Aug 2012

Ricky (?) thank you for the correct word. They had different opinions at my LEO-dictionairy ;o)
In the end we all are human and can make mistakes. Therefore it is sometimes more sensible for a business-owner to be obliging in those cases :o)

Surely they can see your mistake with all other designs being 4x4. This is not good for their business!!!!!!!!. I have never been to this site either.

It is a great site for applique designs and has some really cute animal appliques and they are on sale now. Besides the elephant boy and girl I got monkey, tiger, gator, bull dog both boy and girl of all and an applique patch. Sent another email and I am hoping.

I do not know Applique Corner, but surely they would send the design in your size after you ex planed your mistake. This is not good customer service. I will admit that I have not bought from sites again that let a small mistake go unrectified. Kay

I agree Kay.

bonnetgirl by bonnetgirl 12 Aug 2012

I hope they will but it still was my mistake. Now at another site I purchased 2 designs that were suppose to be for a 4x4 hoop but were slightly larger and would not fit my hoop. Sent a note telling her, she would not resend or give me a credit. I no longer buy from them and I purchased alot of her designs.

mpo14011 by mpo14011 12 Aug 2012

Joann, this is a totally different kettle of fish. If she advertised them for the 4x4 hoop, and they are too large for the 4x4, then she should have replaced them for you.In this case you did not get what you ordered.
