You all know I told you that my job of 30 years closed and moved to Mexico at the end of June. Well, part of our severance was college for 2 years, I have been out of school for over 30 years but my first day of class is the 20th. I went today and picked up my books. I know many of you are teachers but I am sure nervous about this. I have looked over the online college blackboard for hours, still makes no since to me. Wish me luck and please lots of prayers, I really want to do good.

I am sure you will do well. It is a bit daunting, however once you read the catalog and have a few classes, it will feel like second nature and you will have fun learning! Live Laugh Learn!

Hang in there. I'm betting you will enjoy the classes. That was a great thing they did by giving you 2 years of college. That will help you get back into the work market!

It's like anything new, fear of the unknown doesn't help but once you've attended a while and made new friends you'll be OK. Jan

Find your advisor and get help signing up for classes. I have found the professors like having "life experienced" students in class. I returned to university and I love it! It is a lot harder than 20 years ago however, because I MUST study. Check into the services your school offers. Mine has free tutoring in all subjects.
Good luck!

Being nervous is normal as is being confused about the online college blackboard. Just concentrate on getting your first semester under your belt. It will get easier. And the good news is that generally, older students are better students. I sure did a better job in my 30s and 40s than I did in my teens an 20s.

Don't worry you'll do fine :) I got layed off my job in my early 50's hadn't been to school since the mid 70's. I did fine, white boards instead of blackboards...LOL They will offer get acquainted type of classes so you can learn all the new terminology and how to use the computer end of it. Don't be afraid to ask you teachers questions... in a few weeks you will be an old pro.

This happened a couple yeas ago to my older DD. Her job went to India, and they had to help her with education. She was in computer field, and decided that she was going to try something that could not be outsourced. You can do it - it had been years she she got her degree, and since, has earned another degree, and will finish her schooling in May - she went into the health field, and should be taking her boards next May. Good luck to you. You can do it - but remember - you will be going to school with younger students, and my DD says they don't all have the study ethics that the older students have.
