I buy a thread guide. It has a sample of the thread along with the number. When I get close to needing another spool I just take the spool to my thread guide and match the color and make an order.
With the metro threads I used my label maker - as in the picture. For the ones from threadart (the first ME thread I had bought), I used a sharpie (as had been suggested on here) and wrote underneath.
I think your idea of using a label maker is wonderful. I think I need to invest in one.
What a good idea didnt think of my brother P touch label maker must get it out of its box again it has a label size that will fit I use the size to label my small sissors and scrwe drivers and feet for my sewing machine. Hugs Joyce
On the metro thread, I write the # at the little space at the top and on the bottom rim with a thin sharpie. The bottom, I do name and #. Works great Thread Art, I put the # underneath with thin sharpie This has worked for me.
I now mostly use a sharpie and it doesn work, except I have some spools with no place to write on. grrrr
I meant it "does" work...some spool are just wound on a tube like spool and it's not smooth.
Or you could write the color number on a piece of HUgo's tape and then wrap it around, the only problem with this is you would need to match the right tape to thread & I'm sure I would goof it up...LOL My problem is I like it on the top so I can see the number when I have them sitting in a pull out drawer. I have yet to figure out a way to store my threads so they are easy to find and don't take up space. I love the wood thread racks, but they do take up a lot of wall space and if you don't keep them covered with clear plastic they can get dusty.
Muffy :)
I take a sharpie and write the color number on the snap closure. I have the Metro threads, and their color numbers are on top, so I take them and put the sticky top on the inside of the spool, and write the number with the sharpie. So far, it has worked well.
Can't wait to hear some of the ideas out there on this. Have same problem
