I use all thread in top and bottom as long as it dosent break alot , Cant handle the frustration of that but I use everything , Just depends on the design and the color.

Thanks for asking this question. I still need to try serger thread in the embroidery machine but with so many positive answers I think I'll give it a go.

Most Surger thread is 60 weight polyester thread.

Bobbin thread for embroidery comes in different weights such as 60 weight, 75 weight, 90 weight.

I am told that the bobbin thread for embroidery is stronger than surger thread.

Yup...no problems with Serger thread for bobbins...but I use the Metro plastic Class 15A prewound bobbins the most...they are really inexpensive and they work great...and the bobbins are reuseable and rewind perfectly for all my other projects.

I do unless it is a very special project. Janome bobbin thread is so expensive and my machine doesn't like the really thin bobbin thread.

Yes, bobbin thread seems to be unduly expensive. I can't figure out why.

ShoppersRule sells 5000yards of bobbin thread for under $10.00 a spool. Have been using it for several years now with no problems.

I posted a vintage design sewn with serger thread so it looked more old fashioned. It turned out great. I think I used bobbin thread in the bobbin though, not serger for the bobbin. I wouldn't be afraid to use it though.

Yes, and also for top thread. I mainly stitch FSL and it works great and give the design a different look than regular embroidery thread. I also love to use cotton thread for my FSL.

Does it create more lint than regular bobbin thread?

bevgrift by bevgrift 26 Jun 2012

No,not at all, It is a polyester thread not the wooly nylon that is sometimes used for serger. Hugs Bev
