has anyone ever tried to thread 2 colours at once through their needle? And if so does this work? I am designining something new and would like to use an ordinairy thread and a metalik thread at once. Just wonder if you could sew with 2 threads together.

I used a design once years ago that was not dense enough and tried the 2 threads to try to help fill it in--it worked. I used 2 different colors and was very pleased with the effect.

I have. works fine. I used gold with the brown to give a tee shirt neckline design a little bit of sparkly.

The Cuties who have done this, will you post your work in projects so we can see it? I have done (years ago) two threads in one eye but never in embroidery and not with metalic thread.
I would LOVE to see finished projects!

For your information.
Q: I want to use two different colors of thread in the needle when I am embroidering a design. How can I do that?
A: Attach the extra spool pin to your machine and with a spool of thread on each spool pin thread your machine and needle with both spools of thread. When using two threads in your needle you will want to use a # 14/90 embroidery needle and 40 wt. embroidery thread.

Note: this does make your design denser/heavier. You may need to decrease the density of your design in embroidery software such as Density Works from Designer's Gallery to help the design stitch better. To learn more about Density Works select this link: http://www.designersgallerysoftwa...

I have never done it using a metallic thread - the two colors blend - - it would be very interesting to see your project when you are finished - I have used twin and triple needles with alot of success and I really like how they work when making a border using 2 or 3 of the colors in the embroidery.

I don't know if you can still get one but I got double eyed machine needle when I bought a Bernina machine in the 70's.I think it was called a magic needle

I would use a needle with a bigger eye . On the Janome it is a red tipped needle size 14. I use this for all matalic sewing . Hugs Joyce

Sounds interesting. Please let us know how it came out. When I use a metalic thread, I place a drinking straw on the thread pin (holder) so it straightens out the thread and makes it easier to stitch. Good luck. Rachel

I'm thinking that our own cutie Noah (Carolyn) has done this in one of her projects. Hopefully she will see your post.

wow!!! now here is an interesting question... it's getting me inspired to try this out. I think I'd use a bigger-eyed needle if I were to use metallic thread with another thread, though.
I've never used metallic thread in the embroidery machine. I had plenty of trouble with it with hand embroidery.
I get so much inspiration here ..... thanks for bringing up this topic.

I do know that you can thread a needle twice with an automatic threader, cuz I did it once. I did not have the guts to sew with it though, so I am really interested in your outcome! thanks Live Laugh Download Stitch!

I have used 2 colors of thread at once. I have stitched out a sock monkey. To me they seem to have a blend of 2 colors, so I used a gold and a brown together. I got pretty much the right effect!

Yes but not with metallic thread

I have never tried this before. Sounds interesting to me. I would imagine that your needle will have to be bigger and your top tension turned looser slightly. You will have to experiment on this first - since that is the only ay to be sure what will work for you. Hope you find the solution.****
