They should have done a test sew on the machine and give it to you with the machine when you picked it up. That is what my service man always does. I would not be happy about the $40 but what can you do?
just so you all know, it is not the $40 that is bugging me, it is just how they broke the part and then want me to pay for it.... I am willing to pay the $40 to get my machine back, but you can be sure I will put up a fight....
Cuties if you can remember I got the same machine when it was new it did not work right they fixed it twice and still did not work they took it back and kept it for 6 months I finley got in touch with the company and got a new one i have had it about 2and a half years has stayed in the shop about half the time had it serviced in October 150,00 oh I had to take it in yesterday 184.00 Those machines were a dud talked to a guy yesterday aftrernoon he got his wife one .had so much trouble with his he demanded his money back and bought her a jenome I don't know if i spelled that right. but he said she has not had the first bit of trouble with it. He said the whole thing fell out if the brothers 3 weeks after he got it she was embroidering and needle and every thing just fell out.
as soon as i can aford to get a new one this sone is gone

This is so close to my heart now.
I just know I'm going to be paying for a small fix but with big cost.
However, after your experience I will definitely be checking before leaving the place where I take it for repair... thanks for advice in advanc
Doesn't sound right to me. My dealer writes down what you bring with it (like the foot pedal, hard case, etc.) or would put down if anything missing and when he replaces something you get the old part.
I like parkermom's suggestion and she has also given you the phone nbrs. Rise above them and let them know you're not pleased with their service and to not forget that the best advertising is still by "word of mouth" and you have many embroidery/sewing friends. good luck.
After making sure that your machine works, tell them that you want the old part. When you get home, call Brother and report them. There has always been a one year warranty on the work done on my Innovis 4000D. Also report them to the Better Business Beur...oh I forgot how to spell it; but I'm sure you know what I mean. You can also Google I Got Ripped Off. It's a site where you can post what happened to you. I did this once when I was charged for something I didn't order. I got a call from the company the next day telling me that they were refunding my money...and they did! Definately look for another dealer/repairman. Mine is two and a half hours away, but if I call them I can usually set up a day and time to take my machine in for servicing. I've always been able to pick it up the same day, even when they had to replace a part. I wish you all the very best.
Reading this I feel very sorry for you as you are in a difficult situation. Our 'babies' need good care, I know I am very lucky that where I got my machines is brilliant. I can phone for help and get it too and can drop into the shop (its a 2hour plus journey each way) and get help/advice and I can book in for a service. At each service there is a list of what is carried out and when there is a repair the bit that is replaced is in a bag attatched to the machine so I can see it/have it so I know bits are not replaced without need. A good relationship with a good machine dealer is invaluable. The one I go to will be on his yearly visit to the area next month and if I take my machine he will give it a going over and often on these checkups there is no charge. I hope all goes well with your machine when you have it back
That scares me, mine is in for a free check up under two year warranty. Was working great, but I worry about that happening. I hate it for you, maybe look around for a different brother service person. Good luck. Susan
It seems to me, after I took my Brother in, it was warranted, or guaranteed then for one year for complete service. I then bought a 3 year service plan at that time. This has been an invaluable purchase as it covers 100% of everything, including all parts. Shouldn't this also be the case with your machine? If that is the case, then that $40 part should be under the service plan......
I had trouble with mine once, and the repair shop kept it for three months! They weren't very nice about it either. I ended up calling the Brother service center: and they were wonderful. They called the repair shop, and kept in touch with me until I was happy. The repair shop got smart with them on the phone, and the Brother people were not happy at all, and siad that they could take away their contract. Here's their number: (USA) 1-877-BROTHER (877-276-8437)
901-379-1210 (fax)M-F, 9:00am to 5:45pm Eastern Time
I guess I would go ahead and pay it as they seem to have you over a barrel but make them show you it is working fine before you leave the shop this time. When you have it in hand let them know what you think of their service, that you will NEVER come back and you will let all your friends know they are not to go there for service Don't know where you live but if in the states I'd make sure it was posted on Angie's List on the Internet and tell them them that also. Sounds as though these people are dishonest. Always have them show you by sewing something that your machine is repaired before you leave their shop. That is your right. I thank God for the repairman/dealer I have . He is worth going 50 miles for./Lillian
Lillian, I also had a great serviceman/owner where I bought them in Augusta. I got sick, operation, almost a year away from home, and when I was able to open the box on the new machine that I brought home a couple of weeks before I had the surgery, everything went great
everything went great. I called Mark to let him know what had happened but that I had finally started using the machine and he dropped a bomb on me.
He no longer had the Babylock Dealership. A new guy just 3 blocks from him now had it and Mark had another brand machines. He did however tell me to bring it back to him if I needed service
and he and his crew would take care of it for me. This is in Augusta, Ga. and he has been very nice about everything. I have never paid for a bobbin in my life! He gives me a bag full everytime I go in his shop plus he also knows I have a Singer and he fills a bag full of bobbins for it also! Linda
fills a bag full of bobbins for it also. I have never had any service from the woman that sold me the Singer in Macon, Ga! Linda
Oh my - I feel for you - I think I would talk to them - if they really will not budge then pay it - decide if this is really the place for your repairs and where else you could go - if it were not there?
It sounds kind of dishonesty to me, I think they should have given you at least a 30 day warrenty on the original repair service and replaced the stitch plate at their cost. I guess I would try and find a different repair service in the future. Hugs, Mary
Call your local quilt shops and see if they have a repairman. I think I would definetly change. I know our little quilt shop has a repairman come in every week and he services all brands. I know when my goes in the shop it's at least a week before I get it back. Once it came back working weird, they sent it back again and when it came home they said they couldn't find anything wrong but it worked perfectly, hmmmmmmmm.
Its not fair, but what can you do? I live 50 miles to the nearest repairer and he is not very nice, But what can I do? When it needs fixing I can't stand being without my machine! I am adicted to it
Diamond
I hear you. Same with me. The local guy wont touch my machine because he didnt sell it to me. The next guy is two hours away !
They should have guaranteed their work for a few weeks at least. Next time try another repairer if its possible. I have just picked up my watch from the watch maker & they gave me a 1 yr guarantee on it & it was only cleaned,& its about 40 yrs old
Unfortunatly, I think you will just have to pay them. I've had 2 bad experiences with my local dealer - 1st it wouldn't pick up the bobbin thread. $150 later, get it home & it still didn't. Had to take it back again. 2nd time he tried to tell me I didn't bring it in with the hard case. I refused to leave until he gave me one off a new machine. Needless to say - I've never gone back to him. xx
Tell them that you will name and shame them. Sound like crooks to me. Hugs Joyce
I would tell them that you will not be back as a customer and will pass the word around about the service you got from them.. Surely their reputation is worth more than $40.00. They will loose alot of customers.
a good lesson for all test it in front of them before you leave i work will computers and people bring them in for reapir so you book them in and with laptops in particular you open them and the screen is broken.....they say well it was not like that when i bought it in...lesson i check all screens in front of the customer....soozie
im not sure about your area but here i would look for a new repair shop one you trust! good luck viki
As my Grandson says suck it up and pay,but nicely tell him your side of the story hugs
Ask to see it in action before you leave the 2nd time. They get you over a barrel and what can you do but pay? Find another repair shop if you can
Bev
So sorry to hear about this...it is so unfortunate. I always set up my machine with the embroidery unit in the dealers store and test both regular sewing and embroidery sewing before I pay the bill...and my dealer encourages this. I also live 100 miles from my dealer...so it's not a quick trip for a problem...Is there another dealer close to you?
They obviously aren't going to admit it could have been their fault. I'm sorry you have to pay the extra $40. Not all dealers are fair and honest. Good Luck.
Meri
Oh, I so feel for you.
It's always hard to prove what worked and didn't work before you take things in for service.
I've had the same thing happen but with my car. Take it in to fix one thing and then find something else that did work previously no longer does... grrrr ...
I just don't know what you can do about it though.
