Carolyn
there is a Yahoo Group for the Sew what Pro Program and the other programs that Sands Computing has.
You can join it and there is lots of information in the File section on the group.
You can also ask any questions you may have about the Sew What Pro program or how to do something in the program on the group too and get answers.
Link Below.

Your 5D software will not work with out the Dongle.

Do you use the 5D software to write to the card for your machine through your Reader Writer box?

Or does the Reader Writer box have it own software to write to the D Card for your machine?

The Sew what Pro Program can not write to your machine card but you can use it for editing, sizing, combining and converting designs etc.

Carolyn
The Little Max Reader Writer Box and Card by amazing Designs will not work with the Designer II machine.
They just emailed me with this informartion

Your Designer II machine uses a D card.
So it looks like the only software that will work for your machine is the Husqvarna/Viking software with a Dongle to write designs to the D Card for your machine.

It is too bad as the #1plus machine uses a D card and the Little Max and the Ultimate Boxes and cards work for writing designs on the cards and they fit the #1plus machine and you don't need a dongles.

Go figure!!

Oh no - I had a friend whose dog ate her dongle for one of her sets. She was ready to kill him. Maybe it will show up - it has to be there somewhere. I never remove mine, and have actually moved it to the back of my tower so that it does not get bumped. It would make me want to try something different. Bless your heart.

Hi Carolyn, I hope by now you have found your dongle. Is it a big piece that you are looking for ?
In my family -if something gets lots, or someone does not find his/her things, we always blame it on "Blacky" . This is our virtual dog who is living for years with us and always seems to put things at a different location. :-)

Carolyn

Which 5D program do you have - the full program or 5D Extra that came with the Dongle?

You could look at the Little Max Reader Writer box and Card at Amazing Designs. It will work with your Designer 2 machine. It writes to a card that fits in the machine.

Anothe Reader Writer Box and card is the Ultimate Box with Card by Vikant that will work for your machine.

Did your 5D program have editing for designs?
You could buy the Sew What Pro Program for editing and combining etc and it doesn't require a dongle.

These are alternatives for you to compare prices to the 5D program.

What design format does the Designer II machine take - Hus or SHV?
I wrote to Vikant to see if the Ultimate box and card are compatable with your machine. I know it works for the #1 Plus machine that takes a card in the machine.

eastwitch2 by eastwitch2 16 May 2012

I will check to see if the Little Max box by amazing Designs will work with your Designer II machine. It does work for the #1Plus machine so it may work for the Designer II.

mops by mops 16 May 2012

The dongle for the full program, 5D Pro, is far more expensive, it costs €1599 here.

noah by noah 16 May 2012

I have Designer2 sewing machine and i have a box/carder reader for it .
I brought up the picture in 5dthen transfered it to the card reader then put the card in my machine.
Last night i downloaded a 30 day tryout of SEW WHAT PRO.I been fooling with it to see if i can understand it .I did one towel last night and Devon helped me with the other 2

Carolyn, I know you're frustrated by not being able to locate your dongle. When I lose something my favorite prayer is "Dear St. Anthony, please come around for something is lost and has to be found." I learned that as a little girl and used it many times. It often helps me locate what I'm missing. St. Anthony is the patron saint of missing things, or so I was told. I DO hope you find it so you don't have to spend the money to replace it. I'll be praying for you.

I have a laptop upstairs by the sewing machine...and a desktop with a 22" screen downstairs in the office so if I am really working on a design I prefer the large screen. So I took my dongle out and set it down on a shiny colorful magazine and "lost it" by setting down another shiny magazine on top. I am also very near sighted so I didn't see it. But now I have a large bright green doo-dad attached to the dongle!

Sorry to hear that - hope you find it soon. I have mine in a usb hub and that's a little bigger to lose. I also don't have to remove the dongle itself, I take the whole thing out (which I rarely do). Guess I'm lucky as I got a laptop with my machine as a bonus and that's all it's used for, so the dongle can stay in it all the time (although sometimes I bring the laptop out to the livingroom and work on it, but at least the dongle still stays put).
Good luck and keep looking - it's gotta be there somewhere - you've probably overlooked it - done that kind of thing before - and sometimes it's in the only place you didn't look.

Carolyn, I pray that you find that little $425 dongle. So sad there isn't a way to get another.

I have a question for Carolyn and all who answered. Why would you remove the dongle from your computer? I don't remove mine so I am wondering what I am missing out on since all of you do remove the dongle at times. Is there something only I do not know about???

I do take mine out of my laptop when I'm putting it in the carrying bag to take somewhere or if letting someone else use my laptop.

marcellelewis by marcellelewis 15 May 2012

That certainly makes sense. I hadn't thought of using a laptop. Thank you. I thought sure I had missed something important about removing the dongle for some reason.

Marcelle

clawton by clawton 15 May 2012

When traveling I take it out so it doesn't get damaged by placing the laptop in the carry case. My dongle came in a plastic case so I place it in that for protection and then it goes in the case pocket. I also purchase the extension cable. That would be a little harder to mis place but takes up more room for travel.

shirley124 by shirley124 15 May 2012

I take mine out when not using it so as to free up a usb port.

marcellelewis by marcellelewis 15 May 2012

Good point about the USB port too. We have so many things now that use USB ports it is easy to run out.

Marcelle

noah by noah 15 May 2012

marcellelewis by marcellelewis 16 May 2012

Wow, it could be anywhere. Have you checked inside your car and the path to your car? Also call the place where the lesson was held. Maybe dropped where you parked. Hope someone found it.

Marcelle

mops by mops 16 May 2012

I was told to remove the dongle only when absolutely necessary, therefore it is in one of those 4 hub things that also holds my printer cable and the external harddrive. So I can take the connection cable out when I take my laptop with me and leave the rest at home.

Hope you find it, I have a dongle and get in a panic if I do not see it.So know how you feel, lot of money to find just to replace. Have a look on E-Bay if there is a second hand program for sale. Think if I lost mine would probably try embird too, instead of buying new from the same, just because of the dongle.

57801
by Janus48 15 May 2012

I have been in your shoes. Lost sleep over it...cried...finally bought another 4DPro Viking program (would you believe $1000??) and then a year later I found the original...between some sewing magazines. (sneaky dongle!!) So now I have a spare program but it is FOUR D not 5 and almost obsolete. I do think the companies overdo the cost. But now I guard the new dongle!!

noah by noah 15 May 2012

1686
by pasister 15 May 2012

If it comes to a new one, I would dump the program and get one like Embird that is far less costly and doesn't use a dongle. I did so several years ago and have been happier ever since. I think it is very poor customer support to require the cost of the entire program to a registered user. And, I hate the idea of the dongle anyway! Would never again purchase their software when others are available.

I leave mine in the BACK port of my computer. I only use one computer with it, so can do that. But I also put it into a "connector" like thing so if something should happen, it would only damage the connector not the dongle, as if I were to take it in & out. It's a shame we can't buy replacements, I do understand but really!! I have 3D & it's not even anywhere to be talked about!! Praying you find it soon!!

35675
by rescuer Moderator 15 May 2012

I am sure you will find it...but if you have to buy a new one first...isn't there a cheaper additional program that requires the dongle (and so it would come with one) like a cross-stitch or photo-stitch program? Hey a girl can hope --right? Good luck! I will be praying you find it SOON!

Oh my! I have Viking 4D and I watch that dongle as if it is a 2yr old waiting to walk out the front door without mommy! I know it doesn't cost much to manufacturer that itty bitty thing, but they sure get you when you need it! Even the CD with the program costs pennies to press out, but they do value their products! I hope you find it...retrace your steps (I know you already did, do it again!) and look in unlikely places, because if it was easy you would have found it already! Or maybe it is staring at you, wondering why you have left it alone all this time! White light to you for your search. Linda

You can get a replacement dongle fairly cheap when you've got a damaged one, but not if it is lost or stolen. That's their way of preventing copying the program from someone else.
Having said that you can't get a dongle at all for 3D or 4D only for the current 5D.
