I don't know if most understood your question or read it well enough. I haven't tried it but I would look for ones that have a lot of stitching first of all and then I would stitch around it onto a piece of scrap material and wash it by hand in the sink and let it dry completely and wash again for at least 4 or 5 times and see if it holds it's shape. Some might where others might not so I would for sure try them out on scrap first. Good luck and let me know how it turns out, I'd like to try it when I get a chance too! Debra

I should have put in there to first rinse out the wss and let it dry before stitching it to a piece of fabric.

What you are looking for are Free Standing Lace FSL butterflies. There are many free ones on Designs by Cuties and other sites, There are some really nice ones on mygardened.com which is Yoriko's site. She's a cuties too. You stitch FSL on water soluble stabilizer and then when it is dissolved, you have an adorable little applique, or "free standing" design you can stitch onto anything! Welcome to Cuties! use wss when done lightly rinse out the wss & then when it is dry, stitch outside of the butterfly outline onto the article of clothing or whatever it is! I hope this makes sense & welcome to our family

Had quite a time to get a workable link for this. Click on HOME, then free designs, it will give you a page listing all their free lace designs. Very nice. The butterflies are small ones.

From the main page, on the left menu, choose Free Designs.
Scroll down to Lace-Butterflies Schmetterlinge.
There are some fsl butterflies and other things there. Check out all the other pages, you can dl the ones with a free tag under the picture.
