What is a clipart? If I draw a flower then scan it, is it a clipart? How do I make Clipart? Why is it easyer to digitize a clipart than a photo?

Clip art is art generally created by artists for people to use for graphic design whether that be digitizing or web site design...Usually 'generic' art. It is usually free of errors and the lines and areas are very 'tight' and 'clean' of mistakes. It is usually a term that refers to very basic artwork... Like 'line art' filled with generally 16 or less colors. This can be vector or pixel based art... usually tho vector art and that is far easier to digitize because it is made up of lines and areas not tiny squares of color. (Many digitizing programs can convert to vector images, tho some not very well) The best way to describe clip art is to think of a coloring book image filled with solid color. This makes it far easier to digitize and sew out unless you have a pro embroidery head/machine that uses multiple needles (many thread colors), don't mind mistakes and have lots and lots of time on your hand to watch the machine sew! lol

Wow, Good question and many good answers. I still dream of the day I will digitize. I want so badly to digitize a design of my motorbike. Need to get that perfect pic of it first. *4U ><>

Clipart 1010 - Clipart are images that can be used in a variety of ways, such as print, on screen or web publishing. There are two types of clipart... 1. Raster 2. Vector. Raster images are pixilated (bmp, jpg, gif, tiff), such as photos. Vectors are composed of mathmatic calculations to create lines and curves (algorythms). Since they are not pixilated (dot specific), they can resized and scaled acording to your desire. It is a lot easier to digitize a vector graphic because they're cleaner...however you're definitely limited with color (since vectors again aren't dot-specific). Hope that somewhat helps. :-) I haven't even had my first cup of coffee yet, so I'm not sure if my explanation is clearly stated.

Hi, I think I can add to Letvia's answer...clipart is any image, which can be inserted into a document...such as a report or letter written in Microsoft Word, etc. Clip art includes photos, hand and computer generated drawings, etc, so when you scan a photo, you make an image that can be put into the document. I don't digitize, but I think Letvia's right about why it is easier to digitize a drawing than a photo...there are more shadows and color changes in a photo than in a drawing and that would make it harder to digitize.

Simplest answer is clipart, or Vector Images, do not have pixels but are flat pictures so are easier for digitising software to recognise. you can check out the comparison pictures on the link below. hugs n roses, M

I don't know whether it applies to all digitising software, but the one I've just started using (Janome Customiser 2000 Easy Import) only allows you to have a maximum of 12 colour changes and photos have millions of colours! I get round it by doing a drawing from a photo and simplifying it into main colour blocks and then narrowing it down further into around 10 colours / shades (to allow for outlines too, which count towards the permitted 12!) I've uploaded some of the embroidery I've done this week in this way. I don't know if it's the *correct* way, but it works for me!

The density and amount of colours make photos difficult to digitise. clipart or scanned drawings are alot easier to digitise and fill with stitches. I do think there are some bits on my digising programme that do it, I like to draw or use clipart.

I don't know the technical meaning but a clipart is like a draw. As you say, if you draw something and then scan it, you made a clipart. I think is easier to digitize a clipart than a photo because the clipart is more simple, the photo is more detailed. Maybe somebody can give you a better explanation. Flower and XoXo
