I started sewing when I was 9 years old. I ripped a pair of shorts when my mom was gone and thought I had better fix them before she saw them. I sewed them up and put them in the laundry. When she did the laundry the next time she was laughing so hard. I asked her what was wrong and she asked if I had done any sewing. Apparently when I sewed my shorts I sewed the legs closed! So it's just me and my mom that sews now. :)

I got my SIL started about 5 years ago and just last year passed one of my machines along to her so she now has 2 as well as me. Also got my best friend started and now she has 3 embroidery machines! SIL lives 2000 miles away and we only are able to get together rarely, girlfriend lives 300 miles away and we get together several times a year. But we talk every day! Hugs. Nan W
A distant sister and all my on-line friends, lol! No one that I personally know of in my area.
Diane
NO ONE AT ALL. All my cousins admire my work, I give away lot of gifts made by my machine to all close relatives and friends.About two of them are really inspired to buy one.
17 years ago I got my first em. machine and fell in love with it. After having it for about6 months, I took it to my friends house and put it on her table and showed her how to thread it, I then turn and left, three days later she called and said to come get it! I thought it was broke or something but she had gotten her one and its been wonderful sharing ideas and spending time together hugs Diamond
My daughter is the one that got me hooked... But we are the only two in our families.
My sister and I both bought identical Amaya XT commercial machines at the same time. We do completely different types of embroidery though. She likes more heirloom type designs and I like more whimsical type designs. I learned to digitize but she did not learn yet but I hope she decides to try digitizing soon. I think she will be very good at it because she is very detail oriented. Just goes to show how different close sisters can be.
Great question. Flowers for all.

My oldest sister in Fla. has two embroidery machines and I have a sister in Ft Walton Beach, Fla. who also has one and my precious friend who got me into this and taught me about embroidery. It's a lot of fun to do with someone else and share ideas. roberta
My Cute Diamond friends of course all do embroidery, but none of my (older) friends and definitely no-one in my immediate family. My one cousin who used to do machine embroidery, sadly passed away from a brain tumour 3 years ago. (we could have enjoyed some fun times when I moved up here, closer to where she lived, but alas HE had other plans.)
I come from a family with a few crafters, quilters, and sewists. However, I am the only one in my family with an embroidery machine. My MIL appreciates the time I put into all my work. She is also the first to buy something when I do craft fairs. Most of those I know think it is easy and no big expense to do machine embroidery. I always ask them for the cost of materials unless it is a gift from me to them. They rarely ask again. LOL
My only friends who do embroidery are the CUTEies that I learn from everyday. Thank you all!
I am BLESSED. My daughter bought a machine like mine and embroiders up a storm!! She started sewing in high school, doing her friends' sewing projects and charging them for it:)Now she supplements her income by selling at work. I have 3 friends all running their own sewing businesses, embroidery and quilting. My sister, sister in law and my cousin all sew, but do not embroider. Hugs to these wonderful people in my life and all of you ,too. Christine Johannesburg
wow this question was a hit! I hope that I got everybody! Thanks again ladies! ******2all & Hugs Loralye
There are 10 Ladies in my group and we all do some type of Craft, but I am the only one with an Embroidery machine, even though a couple of others would like one. A few are mad on quilt making.
My three BESTEST friends in the world come to my house to sew at least once a week , we all walk on hot coals for each other and are all so passionate about sewing .Sewing ladies make the greatest friends , Cathy
I have two friends that are also on Cute Lbrow and Bethelb and I am trying to get my sister wound up on doing some more. I wish that there were more cuties around the Anniston area on here so we could have a sew-a-thon or shoud I say an embroidery party.
I have my niece who also does sewing classes with me it is good to share
no just me got a friend who is saving for her first embroidery machine she is so excited she is already gettin her desings from cute ...
When I first got involved in embroidery my older sister did too. Shortly thereafter my younger sister bought her embroidery machine. I don't have any friends who do embroidery but I have meet and made many through classes at my local fabric shop. Hugs & Stitches, Liz
well I can see that alot of us are on our own when it comes to sewing ME,to that I say THANK YOU MISS V FOR THIS SITE! & to all of you because I know that I would probably have given up trying to remember stuff if it weren't for this site!*************2all! Isn't it nice to know that cuties from around the world can be reached 24-7! I think it AMAZING!
I am the only one. Have a sister in law that does floral arrangments and other crafts and knits. Not another sewer or embroiderer in the bunch!
MJDG
oops! I forgot --- I have a cousin in Tennessee that sews and embroiders... HOW COULD I FORGET???? because I'm taking the Metro thread that I can't use to her when we go down! HOW COULD I FORGET...BECAUSE WE EMAIL ABOUT IT ALL THE TIME! YIKES!
(senior moment?)
I am the only one who does embroider. I do have two nieces who are both very talented. One makes quilts (by hand) and the other designs hardanger designs and sells them. I think my daughter has some interest in embroidery but I do not see her to often and she lives a distance away from me. Hugs, Mary
I am the one and only, BUT I have met some really great Cuties who I share ideas with :)
I'm it, but I have on-line friends to share with! I should take some classes at the dealer's and meet people but they aren't compatible with my odd working hours. One sister does beautiful counted cross-stitch though and we both crochet.
I'm the only one in my family who does machine embroidery. I also don't have any friends who embroider. The funny thing is, I belong to the quilting club at our local senior center. There are several ladies in the club who own embroidery machines but have never used them. They study everything I make, and comment on it, but do not know how to use their own machines. Hmm, maybe some day I should do an embroidery class!! I do quilting classes, so embroidery wouldn't be a big step. Thanks for the idea!! :)
You should definitely teach them. Perhaps they are a bit intimidated by the embroidery part of their machines and would welcome your assistance. Marcelle
I'm the only one, but thanks to the many, many embroiderers out there, I now have 'friends' all over the world!
My sister and I have identical machines that we got with an inheritance from our mother. It's a lot of fun to go sewing/embroidery classes with her.
Maureen
In my family, I am the only one, But I will give my old designer 1 to my grand daugther.
I have now some friends who do embroidery, but I have know them thanks to Cute, and recently, thanks to a french forum of machine embroidery
I am the only one. The only one that did anything in the crafting area was my grandmother who knitted, crocheted and did tatting and my mother did knitting and sewed when we were little (but don't remember her seeing her sew). Possible if my younger daughter was living here and close to me she might do ME. The one that is here has no interes in sewing at all.
I'm the one who has always done the repairs - grandsons still bring me their stuff to be fixed (that's why I sometimes refer to myself as "fix it gram").
I like it & I guess if your good at it & they are not, then it's our gift to share!
I am the only one in my family. Also the only one that does mending too. Sometimes that is wearisome.
For now, just me. Three years ago, my little sister did helped me, but she was married and moved.
I am the only one in my family.working on teaching my girls..But it is true everyone thinks there is nothing to it.I get tired of people bringing me thier mending.I tell them I do not sew I embroider lol
Then there are the friends who want fsl for their scrap books. They don't realize the time and cost.I made a piece as a favor now it is expected.Don't know how to charge them now
well just tell them that you can't really afford it anymore! But if they want to buy you some thread or needles that would be a start! But tell what kind you need!
As soon as my sister saw my embroidery machine she wanted one as well. She bought a few years ago one exactly like mine. So we have often embroidery chats on phone and email. We sometimes meet up for an embroidery weekend. Wished she lived closer!
I'm the only one in my circle who does machine embroidery. My mother does hand embroidery. I agree with many of you who suggest that many people think it takes no time and it's free. Some people even think it takes no creativity to do machine embroidery. Never listen to those people who try to make you feel dumb. However, some people think I'm awesome and amazing and truly creative, especially when I give them a homemade gift (well, that's true! LOL).

If others want you do work for them and you don't want to, charge them for your supplies and time. That often stops the requests!
All alone too..... sometimes I don't feel that they value sewing Or care about the time and careing. So I just have fun for me..Too bad for them
My friend Pattianne does embroidery. She lives in IL. No one in my family does it. Pat comes up once a year and we do alot then
I am on my own, would love an embroidery friend close by.Cheshire U.K.
I have my SIL follow cutie (dani) who introduced me to embroidery. She lives 1000 km away but I speak with her almost everyday. My daughter is starting to show interest and that makes me happy.
My mom used to be a golden hand at everything but her health does not permit her anymore. Lol My sister is over forty and cannot even boil an egg - her son says anything household is not her thing, so I am alone too. My mom and my husband admires whatever I do.
I am the only one too. Would love to have some friends to share the fun with - maybe someday I will find a Cutie around here!
I am lonely only me:((hugs carolyn
Carolyn
Even though I live far away from you. You can always count on me in your circle.

I'm the only one in my family but they are all under the assumption that just because it's made at home there is no cost it's free.
It is not the cost that bothers me the most (among my friends and family) it is their believe that it does not really take time and that I anyway have nothing to do. Lately I have forced myself to say no or even just look not interested.
Yes, my daughter who lives in Paducah, Ky. She's been at it much longer than me and has often been my mentor. /Lillian
I'm the only one in my family. I've been trying to get Amy interested, but she's not into it yet. She's a great sewer, but not into ME - yet!
Of course I have Meg and Pauline in my "Circle of Trust" - quote taken from the Fokkers! he he he!
Love Chris
My sister got the first machine, she brought it on vacation to the shore, and that's how it all started. And my friend started after us, and she has 3 embroidery machines, one that does sashiko, and a 6 needle. (And a husband to buy her stuff)lol. We all compare projects, and all have grandkids to sew for. Good to have brains to pick when you have a problem. We all have different machine brands.
no one I even know sews anything they say it's just easier to buy it
Most of my friends have an embroidery machine but no-one in my family even sews. That makes showers for me alot of fun & I'm the one getting all of the wow ah that's sew cute & Wow did you make that?workss for me,LOL
