I was attacked by viruses twice in the last week trying to get onto embroiderypassbook's website. The first time I hit a link to their freebie alphabet page and the second time I clicked a link in their email which was trying to take me to their homepage. I sent them an email. The first time I was attacked with Smartfortress 2012 which is a fake company forcing you to pay them to remove the virus they put on your computer. The second time, I had a malware warning and I closed the page immediately.

I run "AVAST" and it checks all the time.
It is a free antiviris program.
Each page, even all that is already on my computer,
is checked before opening.
Avg does not do as good a job anymore.
All that have DS that do IT must pay them for their time helping us learn. Computer problems are a real pain and they take time to run any fixes.
My DS was paid pocket money to write short notes for me and so I learnt some comp skills. Bribery works ...LOL...

OK.
A trojan is not a virus.
It is malware.
Most Trojans use an auto-starting method that allows them to restart and grant an attacker access to your machine even when you shut down your computer. Trojan writers are constantly on the hunt for new auto-starting methods and other such tricks, making it hard to keep up with their new discoveries in this area. As a rule, attackers start by “joining” the Trojan to some executable file that you use very often, such as explorer.exe, and then proceed to use known methods to modify system files or the Windows Registry.

Trojans are similiar to worms. In contrast to worms and viruses, however, trojans do not replicate themselves or seek to infect other systems once installed on a computer.
Smart Fortress is malware, not a virus.

You could have had this on your computer without your knowledge.
If you use Internet Explorer, social networking, chatting on messenger, downloading a picture file, just to mention a few, you could have downloaded it without realising it.

Personally, I'm not sure where I got my problem and it doesn't behave like the Smartfortress that as been described. I had several windows open.

I have been to Embroidery Passbook many times, and as recently as this morning. There is no virus.
I spoke to my computer guy and he said the only way you can get a virus or malware is to download.
Chances are that these viruses could have been downloaded from another site, and you people go to a lot of sites, some not as reputable as others, and had your computer already infected.
Going to another site could have activated these viruses.
Glenn would not jeapordise his good name, income, his designers, customers or potential customers by not having Passbook adequately protected.
Before condemning Passbook it might pay you to check out some of the other sites you have downloaded from recently.

I got the Embroidery Passbook newsletter...nothing else was open or accessed except the newsletter. As soon as I clicked on the Floral Frame Alphabet link from the Embroidery Passbook newsletter...BOOM!!!

dragonflyer by dragonflyer 09 Apr 2012

...as soon as I was connected to the download page I was hit with the Trojan virus..Smart Fortress..which tries to get you to buy it's malware program to remove the virus..IT'S BOGUS! This virus hides folders on your hard drive that keep coming up, even if you try to remove them...it's very invasive and it came from the Embroidery Passbook download of the Floral Frame Alphabet.

I use Avast (free) and it blocked several Malware things from downloading. It also told me there were Trojans on a few occasions.
I ran my Avast for virses, Malwarebytes, Spybot and Ad-aware and nothing showed up. I won't go to Embroidery Passbook anymore.
Good luck to you who are infected.

I have been absolutely pounded with virus attacks for the past several weeks. In fact, I was asking if others had the same problem, and apparently, at the time, no one did. I emailed EmbroideryPassBook's site telling them to remove me from their mailing list because it isn't worth dealing with the viruses. They have some hideous ones too. I've had three attacks in the past week alone. It isn't worth it!!!

I am now also wary of that site. I am vey scared of viruses, since my knowledge of computers are very limited. Hope you all get sorted out safely and not a big loss of data. ****

My son had me go to all accesssories/system tools/system restore and I went back two days and it took it off of my computer. Of course I got a very smart a-- email from my son telling me that he was going to come by and child-proof my computer. It is gone but I spent all day trying to get it off of my computer! Then..I had to rum my malwarebytes and my microsoft security to make sure all was right again! I do not need their designs enough to go back to that site!! Linda

This is the reply I got from Embroidery Passbook. I have not contacted Glenn yet.

Hi, the Web Site does NOT have a virus. Certain Anti-Virus
Programs are giving this signal, even my own does it. I have spoken
With Glenn about this and he has had it checked out and the Web Site
Is clean with no viruses. If you have other questions concerning this
You need to contact Glenn and talk with him about it,.
Thanks
Patty

This Trojan just got me this morning...AGAIN!!! I am done with EMBROIDERY PASSBOOK...this is the second time this has happened...they can keep their alphabets! It tried to take over my McAffee...installed itself as my new Anti-Spyware program and automatically started its own scan..CUTIES..SHUT DOWN YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION FAST AS YOU CAN..PULL COMPUTER BATTERY AND POWER CORD. UNINSTALL SMART FORTRESS PROGRAM BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE WHILE INTERNET IS COMPLETELY OFF...and Good Luck! It took my DH awhile, but it looks like he got it removed...Fingers Crossed.

If a virus is keeping AVG from doing it's thing, shut pc down. Open in safe mode and run you AVG. It takes longer but does the job. Hope this helps someone that is having problems. Hugs..Carol

yeah, whoops, took dh took off avg as part of trying to fix. Went to safe mode to reinstall and it won't let us do that. Went back to a previous date and tried to run it on safe mode, still won't let me.

I got this virus also. It was the only thing I had open at the time. I clicked for the free alpha. Norton removed the virus and said it was zunodgjejb.
Norton said this virus was only a week old. I e-mailed and told them. Joyce

I googled zunodgjejb and nothing came up. Do you think it's spelled right?

catsnhorses by catsnhorses 07 Apr 2012

That's the same name that AVG flagged as a Backdoor Trojan Horse. It attached to my Embird program (YIKES!) and I've been trying to fix my system ever since. Since it wouldn't let me de-install Embird, I finally had to remove it the old way. Haven't been able to get Embird reinstalled correctly either. :( Sent them an email asking for help.

Sorry about your computers 'catching a virus'. I know that's not fun...been there done that...I have been fortunate that my A/V has caught 3 virus' before they could get to me. My heart goes out to you and I hope you are up and running promptly. To think I felt bad all day because my 'precious' Scottish terrier chewed up my cordless mouse. That's nothing compared to a computer having a virus.

Now I'm sure. I got a virus. It is stopping my AVG anti virus from completing a scan. We removed AVG and tried to reinstall it and that was blocked too. We are still working on it. If anyone knows the name of this virus, that would be helpful information

Still working on it. We set the computer back a week. I don't think I list my designs but the folders opened up and " exploded" out of the files I put them in. Now the fill up the desk top, plus some.

Thanks! I had the same thing happen to me this morning! Same site! I have been fighting all day to gey my computer where I could use it again. Long maddening story so I will not go there. My son got irratated with me and told me I needed a child-proof computer. He is a smart a-- just like my X(his Daddy) and I wanted to strangle him all day. He is the computer genius but refuses to tell me what I need to do. My security did warn me but some strange computer security co took over my computer and it took me until just a few minutes to get rid of it. It is nearly midnight and I have nothing collected for today and have not seen any of my sites or read any email. I need to go to bed and just start over tomorrow! My son's silly/stupid remarks over the phone all day long was a bit more than I needed to have to put up with. It took me finally screaming at him and hanging up on him for him to get the message. He finally decided to act human! I should call him and wake him up to read your message to him! That is where my troubles began this morning also! All I can say is, "I am glad I only had one child!" He is 45 now and I have hoped and prayed that he would outgrow it but---he acts more like his Dad as times goes by!

lfanders, How did you get rid of it?

lflanders by lflanders 07 Apr 2012

All accassories/stytemtools/system restore. I restored it back to 2 days ago and then had to run everything(malwarebytes and microsoft security) for hours to make sure it was gone!

susiesembroidery by susiesembroidery 07 Apr 2012

Thanks for the warning and way to get rid of it. Hope I won't need it because I am hopeless with the computer.

Can you tell I have a new keyboard and mouse? It is wireless and the keys are fatter than my old keyboard. I am having to learn how to type again. The span between the keys is just a bit wider and since I am nearly blind, It has been hit and miss
