I always put mine on the left side. I had a pocket on mine there and put my name in 1 inch letters, last name first comma then the first. The design I put above or to the side or cornered the name with it. Depended what I used. Since I am R.N. I put it after the name and usually used a stethascope design or the R.N. nursing insigna./Lillian

I think we need more info! How long is the name (Amy or Miltilda Marie Magilcutty), what kind of design? Is this just a little red cross, or a stethiscope? Does she want it on or above a pocket or on the hip? Usually I would answer small is better, but if she is in peds, perhaps larger and bright colors? Help us help you! Linda

What type of machine do you have? Most machines have built in fonts. You can pick one that's about 1/2 tall. Enter the letters you need. You may have to follow your manual for that. I would pick either a very basic print or script type of font.
I would use a permanent cut away stabilizer on the back. Hoop your stabilizer, use a spray adhesive on top of it and place your fabric on.
Do a test first on a similar scrap of fabric. The most common problem with text is that the bobbin thread show through. If that happens, loosen your tension a little.
When you're done you will need to snip the threads between the letters. Do that before you take it out of the hoop, I find that it is easier that way. Trim the stabilizer on the back to 1/4- 1/2 inch around the lettering.

I hope this helps a bit.

You don't want the lettering to be longer than about 3 inches. Placement depends on the size of the garment. Around 7-9 inches down from where the shoulder seam meets the neck and centered around 3-5 inches from the center of the garment.

Use your creative eye to figure the placement and put it on her or yourself to make sure it looks right. Use a washable fabric marker to draw lines for placement.

If it goes above a pocket, center it with the pocket.

I don't have a Bernina so I can't help with lettering on it. Do you have the manual? Maybe someone with your machine will come along and help.
