ITH zipped purse

You will need three pieces of fabric, approx 8cm x 13cm, 18cm x 13 cm and 12cm x 13cm. Choose your own colours or replace the fancy stitching with your own design.

Hoop stabiliser and stitch colour one which marks the placement for the zip. Lay the fastened zip along the central line so that the teeth are on the line, the open end to the left you and all metal parts beyond the edges of the outline. (That is vital - you will need a zip longer than you think!)

Colour 2 will stitch the zip to the stabiliser.

Lay the smallest piece of fabric, face down over the zip and the long edge along the top of the hoop. Colour 3 will stitch it to the zip. Flip the lower part of the fabric up to reveal the zip.

Repeat this process with the largest piece of fabric and colour 4.

Colours 5 and 6 are the fancy stitching.

Un-zip the zip halfway at this stage or you will be stuck later!

Finally put the third piece of fabric face down over the whole thing and stitch the final outline. (I actually used a double layer as the back for extra "body") Cut out about 5mm away from the edge, remove the stabiliser from over the zip and turn through.

How cute. I was wondering if there was a way for you to do something like this in a 4x4 design. I have a 5x7 hoop, but my machine only does 4x4 designs. It's really hard to see all these great designs that are bigger than a 4x4, cause ya'll do such a great job comming up with them. I'd really love to be able to do them also. Thanks again. *4U

I had the same problem with earlier ITH design, and I just shrunk it down to fit my hoop and it made it perfectly, just smaller. It turned out great!

You have such good taste in designs, Sue! What kind of fabric did you use for this? I love your loops and hardware too - they give your items such a finished look! Thank for sharing with us! Jan

spendlove by spendlove 01 Mar 2012

This fabric is just a scrap of synthetic "veltet like" fabric recycled from a skirt! Carabiners came from Ebay (Very cheap!)

How do you keep the needle from hiting the zipper?

spendlove by spendlove 01 Mar 2012

It won't if you follow the instructions carefully! NB it must be a nylon zip though.

icypole1 by icypole1 07 Jan 2018

I'm stumped at step 2. Are the zipper teeth up when taping the zipper down, or are they face down against the stabilizer? Also in step 3, do you put the top fabric face down and then flip up once you have stitched the line? I have done many ITH items but normally there are pics with the instructions, so I'm a bit stumped here.
