FYI.. Yvonne just sent a message to several people about a virus on her PC. I have several people from here that I have asked not to send me jokes and other emails that come with several peoples addresses on them. I usually just delete them. This is just one sure way of transfering a virus from one person to many. Besides, you are sending my email and everyone elses to every person you send the joke to. PLEASE don't send me anymore group, or bulk emails. I don't read them, I just delete them.

Thank you
Mary Ann

I agree wholeheartedly. I always use BCC and have changed my e-mail address 3 times in the last 4 years because I became bombarded with junk and spam where friends forward without deleting previous addresses or just send TO instead of BCC. I always make the request to delete but it sometimes falls on deaf ears to those who do not understand privacy and think I am being paranoid.

I learned something new here today also. I did not know about the "BCC". I don't send group emails, but it's nice to know.

Thank You for teaching an old dog a new trick!

I am fanatic about removing all of the addresses from an email before I forward it and then using BCC. I can't get through to some of my friends how important this is! They send messages which have already been forwarded five times and that is a lot of stuff to delete. It has to be a really good massage for me to even think about passing it on these days!!!

I am with you on this one - I do not even read e mails with jokes and I also hate seeing my address going out into cyber space. Thank you for posting this. Sarah.

I haven't had that problem from this site, but I do have problems like this at work. It's hard to tell people that I don't want/need/even like to be on recipe exchanges, chain messages, "forward these if you love God" messages, etc. Somehow I don't think that forwarding anything is a proof of God's love--but maybe it makes Him laugh a little.

I do exactly the same thing!

I'm with you on this one. I object to having my email address broadcast to people I don't know and I'm certainly not interested in receiving long, long lists of email addresses of unknown people. I try to be polite but on this issue I find that increasingly difficult.

If your Create Mail facility doesn't have BCC (Blind Carbon Copy), and mine doesn't, please at least use CC (Carbon Copy) so that the recipient doesn't receive a list of all the other people to whom the message is being sent. In any case, try to be selective and chose to whom you wish to send a 'joke' or a 'send this on or else' message.

As you say, a lot of people are not aware of this and do not intentionally mean any harm but it is annoying and can be harmful and I'm glad you brought up the subject, Mary Ann.

I agree wholeheartedly with you and this is what I include if I am sending a joke on to anyone I know (and using BCC of course): REMEMBER, If you forward this, PLEASE REMOVE all email addresses before you send it on.
If forwarding to several people at once, use BCC in place of 'TO'..
"Be kind to our email friends."
It's set up in my email software as a default.I remove it for any I don't want to send it to. Thanks for bringing this up. We all need to be informed on this type of thing.

I agree that it unfair that others get your email address in this manner. The sad thing is that it happens from a friend of a friend.

I got your email Yvonne, thank you. Most people don't even know that they are sending everyones email address to others, that's why I posted.

I lost my laptop to a bad virus about a year ago, I lost everything on it. I have no idea where it came from. After spending almost a $1000.00 on a new laptop again, I try to be very careful of where I download from, or the message that I open.

I was trying to bring this to everones attention being you said you already had a virus on your pc.

I hope didn't affend you in any way, I didn't mean to do that.

if someone from South Africa can please advise me,
how I can send to more than 1 recipient, without showing the other addresses it would be appreciated.

Mary Ann, I have sent you an email

That's easy, send it to yourself and add the rest as BCC.

jofrog2000 by jofrog2000 27 Feb 2012

Once you hit forward, hightlight all the other addresses and use the delete key. We always need to clean up messages.

Around here we use "undisclosed recipient". You don't see anyone's address. I hate those jokes and other trashy political stuff. Love that delete key. Sorry that is happening to you with your email address showing. Hugs..Carol

FYI, for those who do not know what "undisclosed Recipient" is or how to do it. WHen you send an e-mail instead of using the TO: to enter your addresses use the BCC: , only the person opening the e-mail from you will see her address the rest will be hidden, may even say "Undisclosed Recipients", not sure.

I know have the email address of 21 people that she sent this message to. I try to keep mine a little private, and I don't want everyone to have it.
