I just did it again. Bought more fabric I really didn't need. But it was pretty and I might need it later for a future project and they might not have any left. What do you tell yourself when you do the same thing?

I tell myself it is a great buy. Am very glad I indulged in some of the fabric I just "bought", as it has ended up making some lovely quilts. And, they were, indeed, out of it when I looked for it later.

So did I!!!! Yesterday I went in to the fabric store 'only for pattern trace' and I walked out with a load of fabric that I didn't need. But it makes me happy and it's pretty and one day.......... (maybe I might get to use it...) :)

I think I've solved the "problem" with buying fabric. At least the "breaking the bank" part. I get on Craig's List and look for people selling their fabric stash. I can usually get it for next to nothing, and it is all matched beautifully. Last week I got two full bolts of fabric for $10, and two giant moving boxes of fat quarters for peanuts. I don't set foot in a fabric store anymore. Do I need it?? Well, it will get used, sooner or later. And there will always be a future project that needs THAT piece!!! Enjoy the journey.

I check Craigs list but they almost never have fabric. I love ebay. I spend way too much money there but have gotten some great deals. The journey continues!

Bev, here is the DaGama quilt I made in the 1990's - as I said it has 3 cats stamped on the background - I actually kept the design in some of the seams. Love Chris - it took ages to make as it's all flying geese!

P.S. This is a queen size quilt - and as you can see from the top of the quilt is getting old - it has faded as it was in the sun.

In response to Bevgrift's answer. I bought a stack of DaGama fabric back in the 1990's. I couldn't get it here and found a lady in Canberra who bought it for me and I made a quilt out of it. It's the 3 cat series and I absolutely love it. It's all navy and white. I'll see if I can find a picture of it. P.S. I bought more fabric yesterday for my grand-daughters!!!!!! You can never have enough!! Love Chris

Dear Bev
Just this week,I went to the shops for fabric that would make the six backings for the scrap quilts that I have made.I am trying so hard to use up my stash.
I said to my DH that while in the shop, he must remind me that I am only to "Get the Backing Fabric ".So the first pile that I spy and feel, he says "Is that for backing".
Guess! I came home with no less than 19 meters of fab cotton (too good for Backings because then everyone will use that side as rigntside and the patchwork as the wrong side).
Now I need other lifetimes to use all in my stash.
(They were only R27.00 per meter)
Happy Stitching
From Bev

Hey Lyn. Can you share that supplier's name with me? Are the prices good or are they the same as quilt shop prices? AlmaG.

mi30kaja by mi30kaja 17 Feb 2012

Alma, I buy my fabric from the USA from http://www.fabricparadise.com/ or www.eQuilter.com I find though I just buy fabric because I like it with no idea what I will use it for. So now when I get there messages in my mail box I just delete them without looking as I know I am weak. Even with the price of the postage it works out cheaper than buying the same fabric from here in Australia.

It's better than what I did. I ran out of my fabric that I needed. It was 10:00 at night and in a tight spot. I needed fabric for a gift. So I went to my closet and cut up some of my dresses. At least I had the Christmas gifts done.

I have always the excuse that I need it for my business ;o) But nowerdays I'm more in buying designs than fabric: need not so much storage and is better to hide *lol*
My problem with some really beautiful fabrics: Never wanna cut them. They lay in the cupboard and I just fondle them because I think: When they are gone I never get them again. Embroiderydesigns are so much better. You can use them again and again :-)

Oh - I know this is a terrible thing. This fighting against better knowledge - you never can use up all the pretty fabric. Still have in store from the childhood of my children - maybe there will be little princesses some time to dress? (Didn't have time to realize for my own girls) .... and now my addiction already has infected two of my daughters....we need more space to store all the fabric and material which might be needed within the next 30 years
