Hoop problem--have any of you broken a hoop? The tightening "thingie" just broke off my jumbo hoop as I was unhooping a project. These things aren't cheap, and it was the plastic that broke, so it won't even glue together! Am I just too rough on it? I would think that these things would be sturdier...

my big jumbo hoop for my Brother Innovis4000D. Luckily, I found one online at Kens sewing and vacuum center through Amazon.com for 62.99 which was the cheapest I could find.

Sorry, what machine do you have? Check e bay or google for the hoop or generics, I saw a site had generic hoop for many models but I do not remember where? I was looking for Hoop It All and it popped Good luck!

Sorry for your damage to the hoop. I would try superglue to fix it. Very expensive item to break, but if it keeps breaking(new ones) I would have a talk to my dealer to find out about a replacement. Maybe there was a batch fault, in manufacturing, and they might change it for you. If you don't try, you won't know if you might be lucky.

I broke the screw portion on my 150x150 hoop. Afraid to use it now. It was cheap to replace that piece though. Sorry for your problem.

Thanks to you all for your responses. I only had tear-away hooped in my jumbo hoop--and had my fabric pinned to that for an in-the-hoop project. I just know in my heart that it wasn't too tight. Worst thing? This is my second hoop to break from my Brother machine. Thanks to Amazon.com for having one on sale. Dealer wanted over $100, got it from Amazon for 65. Still a lot, but better.

No more guaranty on your hoop? Or try to write to the customerservice that this is the second time it happened to you and that you were always such a happy brother-customer... Maybe they can handle it as a gesture of goodwil. Worth a try ;o)

I'm not in South Africa, but I am in the South! South USA--Arkansas. Not really the middle of nowhere, I love it here, but an hour away from fabric. Thank heavens for the internet.

This is exactly why I very rarely hoop my project. I know that it is not always the right way to go but I just hoop the stabilizer and stick or baste the project to that. What a nuisance for you and as you say the hoops are so very expensive. Sarah.

I'm with you don't hoop unless I really have too! I used to hoop towel and had to buy another hoop as it wouldn't tighten for anything else.

parkermom by parkermom 14 Feb 2012

My dealer taught me how to hoop the stabilizer--she never hoops the fabric either. I've never hooped fabric! Glad I'm not alone in that. Thanks

I don't hoop the fabric either. Just the stabilizer and have had no problems for several years. I use my hoops every day.

DUCK Tape. Mine little brother hoop broke. Tried glue. No luck. Been using duck tape for awhile. Works good. Worth a try.

Yes, I've stripped out the screw on 2 hoops. I just bought a third set before Christmas. My embroidery machine guru told me it happens when you tighten them to tight or try to hoop things that shouldn't be hooped... like towels.

I've striped the tightening screw. My husband asked if I was over tightening, too! But my dealer gave me a new screw, so I'm good to go. But I wouldn't think you were being to rough, unless you were beating your hoop with a hammer!

what machine do you have?

by sewmom 13 Feb 2012

Yes, it happened to me. They said I tightened too tight. But I was also told my fabric should be taut. So how do I know when I've gone too far? When it breaks.

Sorry to hear that. They are expensive to replace.
