I don't mind a tote bag, But I do need a pocket at the out-side to put my blackberry (so I can hear when it is ringing) also need a separte pocket (in the bag) for my keys ('cos if the bag is too big I have to search and search,.. to find my homekeys). The design that Meganne showed is nice, but I'm more a classic person so I could use a bag with "jeans look" too much.

OH, I like totes with long straps to go over my shoulder, even adjustable so I can put my head through too because, for some reason, even my bra straps won't stay on my left shoulder now. Wide straps too because narrow ones hurt too much.
I love most totes, bags, if they have inside pockets, so much the better, outside pockets that close are also good, 5" x 3" minimum i would think would be functional.
Somewhere to put my phone, keys, purse, and make-up.
Practical not frilly on this one because I don't go out nights so i haven't used an evening purse in the last decade.
Now having said that, I'll share with you a bag that I absolutely love and intend to make for myself with my own choice of designs on it.
Isn't it absolutely gorgeous? It looks big enough to be functional and small enough to be pretty.
Wish I had a pattern for it.

122864I'd vote for a tote with lots of pockets! However, the black purse with the BFC-Creations design was my favorite purse from the Christmas SS exchange. I'd enjoy just looking at it as a work of art!

24342Pockets! Lots of inside pockets and at least 2 outside that close for all the store cards and my cell phone! I like roomy but not too big. Quilted are always nice and colors like pinks and greens and blues always fit with what I wear Spring through Fall. Top closure for sure so nobody can reach in and grab my wallet. Sturdy straps that are long enough for over the shoulder but not too long that if it falls to my elbow if hits below the knee. I wish I could make something nice for my secret birthday person but I am not that good.

33579Purses are not as useful to me. My "purse" is actually a messager bag that Vera Bradley no longer makes. It is perfect. Quilted material, plenty of space with enough pockets inside and out... flap that clips covers two outside pockets. Zippered pocket outside on the back of the bag. Nice wide, heavy duty strap with a luggage type shoulder helper on the strap... I may need to learn how to make these for when this one needs to retire... I am spoiled.

I use them to navigate within my house... hands-free transport vessels.
Craft bags for the grandkids are a big hit with the little ones and the parents.

20582Can't imagine why so few are answering this. However, here are my thoughts. There is no such thing as too many totes. They seem to find their own niche depending on how they've been designed and the embellishments. Use them for books, gym clothes, groceries, running errands, sewing classes & travel. Darker colors are best for the ones that get used a lot so they aren't out of commission often. Like purses as well, like to have different ones for the seasons. Personally am not into animals, enjoy them but don't have any. Butterflies, birds/birdhouses, garden themes, are at the top my of like list. Marilyn

14208I should probably answer this one myself, lol! I love some of the wonderful elegant totes I've seen in projects etc in the past. I have made lots of plain totes for groceries and I make gardening bags for the gardener. The garden bags end up being multi purpose bags because of all the pockets. I've been using them for when I go grocery shopping. I can only do small designs with my machine (Under 4x4). I love dark backgrounds like black or purple with bright colors. I have chickens and a garage cat, and love horses, tigers, and comical turkeys.
