This afternoon when I started sewing, my machine went all strange. The needle and connection started shivering and bent the needle, then noticed that for safety reasons the machine turned off. I changed the needle and it happened the second time. Another needle bent. I sorted it out but when I went to bring the thread up from the bobbin realised something was wrong. Looked at the bobbin and noticed the bobbin shuttle was not in correctly. I had cleaned it all before and must have put the bobbin shuttle back wrongly. Thank goodness no damage to the machine just two bent (NEW)needles.

I am so happy that it only took two needles! It frightens me when something like that happens!

Thanks for posting so others may learn from your experience.

Hugs, Bonnie

Something I will remember next time I take the bobbin case out.

I started mu machine once without the bobbin. What a mess!!! I gave my daughter one on my older Bernina sewing machines several years ago and had sat down and showed her how to thread it and change the bobbin. The first time she tried to use it, she called me on the phone crying that she had broken all the needles except one. Turns out she had put the bobbin in , but not push it until it clicked. so the needle was hitting the bobbin case each time. She was so frustrated, that she rarely uses it.

It is interesting all of the little things that go wrong but cause so much frustration.

Glad it was something simple. Visions immediately come to our minds of what kind of horrible thing has gone wrong! Then settle down and take a look and maybe we can fix ourselves instead of lugging it to the machine Dr.
Way to go! We can now call you Mrs. Fixit!

I did this also, was able to remove the needle so I could get the hoop out and find out what I had done. All was fine after I fixed it.

You are SO lucky that it didn't throw out the timing. These machines are so delicate. Like, holding a baby is nothing in comparison!! I'm glad that you had a false alarm. Good time to remind everyone that if something seems wrong, check it immediately!! Whew. :)

I had a vision of the Machine going to be fixed and couldn't stand the thought of it missing for days and also the cost. Two bent needles is much less than a trip to the Machine Dr.

I took the spool/bobbin case holder out of my machine two weeks ago as the machine locked and there was a 'loose' bit of thread. After a good lint clear up it took an age to get back together and working. Our machines, oh how we love them and how they cause us headaches

Good girl, stick with it and usually it's something simple like that. These wonderful machines have a zero tolerance for anything out of sync. So glad you got it sorted out and glad you posted, it might save somebody else some day.

Thankfully it was nothing major that caused you to put her in the shop for your own sanity and wallet! Gt to stitchin' girl, lol! What's the cost of a couple of new needles compared to that :)

Don't want to spend money on getting the Machine fixed. I would rather spend it on designs.

Pff Lucky it was only the needles that broke and It was just the bobbin. Imagine you had to send the machine in for a checkup ! So many time without sewing machine ! That would be horrible !

Oh yes, placing the bobbin or bobbinholder incorrect can cause a lot of trouble. Good thing you found the cause. Enjoy stitching again.

This is just a little oversite when putting it back together but out machines are so sensitive that any little thing can really cause problems. Luckily you found it before it did something major,
Have a great rest of the day,

Think I was the one who needed a Bex and a lie down. Honestly the needle section looked like it was shivering before it bent the needle.

beatie58 by beatie58 14 Jan 2012

Haven't heard that one in while bex and a lie down...heheheh

noah by noah 14 Jan 2012

no Lyn needs the drink not the machine lol hugs all

That's a very Australian saying. My Grandfather always had a Bex in the house for headaches. It was in a paper rectangle and he would pour the powder into a bit of water and stir and then drink. Sometimes I saw him put the Bex straight into his mouth! Yuck! Love Chris

Here they are called Goody Powders and my son takes them "straight"....I can't stand them. Linda
