Hello Cuties, I am so dissapointed right now. I went to sew out a pattern for a crib quilt and my Brother PE770 machine just froze in motion. I can't turn the needle wheel to get it loose and am now going to have to take it to a dealer. I'm wondering if I did something wrong? Am I supposed to take it apart and clean and oil it or any suggestions will help!

I wish I could keep these steps in order. They are numbered under each picture. This is how I get thread out of my Brother machine that is stuck in the uplift. Definitely NOT recommended for the faint of heart!

I would take my needle out of the machine. I have Berninas, so I do not know if you can do this on the Brother, then I would take the footplate off, while lifting the material. Cut away, carefully the excess yarn at the bottom, and then check your machine. But.....If you can get the machine to your dealer, that is even better. Phone them before the time, so that they can be ready to help you, if you live far away. They are usually accomodating. ******

Thank you everyone for the suggestions, my hubby took it to the dealer today and I should have it back next week. I saved too long to get it and don't want to take any chances!

love to you all!

Mj, My machine is about 9 years old now and has about a million miles on it, so it is worn. It's a Brother uLT 2003, but I think they are all about the same mechanically. I hope this helps, but it may not be what is wrong with your machine at all! My guess is you have some thread caught somewhere. It may be under in the bobbin area. My nearest dealer is 100 miles away over a snowy mountain pass and it takes at least 3 weeks to get it back, so I try to do it myself when I can. Best to take it to the dealer if you can! Hugs, Jan

Once, my small machine got overheated (at least that is what I think was wrong). I turned it off and let it rest a while and then it was fine again. Good luck!!! Hugs, Laura*

Sometimes, when the wheel is just too tight to move, I have had to loosen the screw that holds this all together! This is very scary!! This screw is backwards to what we usually see. It is NOT lefty loosy, righty tighty. You use a tiny phillips and loosen it and tighten it by turning it like the arrows in the picture. There should be no play in this when you finish. Do NOT take the screw off, just loosen it to get that thread that is caught up in there out. **** DO NOT attempt if you don't have some good mechanical skills and are confident you can get it all back together. I can't be responsible if you break your machine. This is just what I have done many times to save my machine!

Third, I grasp the teeny tiny end of thread with a pair of long forcep tweezer and lock them into place. Then, very gently and slowly I wind the hand wheel (on the right outside of the machine) BACKWARDS, as I am holding on to the thread with the other hand. It starts to unwind. Sometimes it breaks off and I have to get it again. Sometimes I have to add a tiny bit more oil. I have unwound more than two yards before!

Next I add one or two drops of good quality sewing machine oil where the blue arrow is, which is where the thread is caught.

It sounds like a nice little nest of thread around feed dogs. and bobbin. If you find that is what the problem is tweazors a blade and a can of air, will do the trick. Good luck!!! Breath!!!

Hi MJ, When this happens with my Brother it is almost always some thread wound around inside the top lifter thingy. I take off the top screw and look inside and it is hard to see. See picture one
Do NOT do this unless you feel really sure of yourself! Please don't hold me responsible if you ruin your machine! I have done this tons of times and it has saved me from taking my machine in.

This also has happened with my brother machine. I take the plate off look at the feed dogs...usually it is some material that I have tried to sew or thread pushed under. I take my serger (because it is longer and has a curved edge) and pull it out. Clean out the fuzzies while you are at it. See if wheel will turn by hand, if it does put it back together.

Turn it off and back on and see if that helps. Sometimes that allows it to just re-set itself. While it's off I'd also do as 'cfidl' suggested and check the bobbin case. As for oil, all machines are different. I'd check the manual before adding any oil to your machine. I have Husqvarna machines so I'm not familiar with the Brother. Good luck

Can you take up the pressure foot and see if there is a knot from under in the bobbin case. When this happens I use a flat razor blade to cut the piece off and then I can clean out the bobbin case. Hope this helps. Live Laugh Download Stitch!
