I have a Brother 4000, and have never used the prewound bobbins. Are they really good to use? I switch back and forth between sewing and embrodering--is that a problem with using them?

I am contemplating switching to prewound bobbins for embroidery, as well, because I have tried one with the cardboard and it worked really well. So far I have only wound mine, and it is always finished so quickly. I loved the prewound one that I tried. Hope you find what your machines like soon.***

Metro plastic bobbins work great in my Ellisimo and I use them only for embroidery...thread too thin for regular sewing. Price is fantastic!

I have an old Bernina embroidery machine and I use the cardboard sided prewound. I love them and my machine loves them. I used to have big problems when embroidering fonts (the bobin thread coming to the top). Since I changed to prewound I have had no problems. I also sew a lot but wind the bobbins myself to match the top thread.

I use the plastic sided bobbins from MetroEmb.com in my machine for embroidery. I don't use prewounds for sewing in either of my machines. The bobbin case with the purple dot in the bottom is suppose to be for the really thin bobbin thread (like found on embroidery prewounds) and the bobbin case with the green screw is suppose to be for heavier weight threads (like you would use in sewing construction or if you wind your own matching thread for FSL, etc.).

I have a Brother machine and have used NEBS clear sided plastic bobbins since I bought the machine several years ago. I love the convenience and have never had a problem using them. I save the empty bobbins and occasionally wind a few myself.

My Brother dealer gave me her supply of prewounds because her machine hated them and yet mine works fine with them. I use a different machine to sew with even though I have a combination embroidery & sewing machine, even so I wouldn't use my embroidery bobbin thread for sewing. xXx

I have used the prewound bobbins. There is a major problem because they are wound too far to the edge of the bobbin (too full). My machine won't catch the thread right. I have to pull off the first several yards and then they are great. I have a Brother Pacesetter ULT2003D.

I only use the prewound for embroidery since it is usually different than my sewing thread type and color.

Hi sewmom :-) We have the same machine, and I've never had that problem....! But, I'll watch out for it. I always get poly prewounds. Does your machine like rayon?

I also have the ULT '03, and the '02 upgraded to '03..I use the metro bobbins with never a problem in either machine--LOVE them!

I too have had to remove some of the thread of the prewound ones. Sometimes they don't allow the bobbin to float and move freely. But I like them. I use them only for embroidery.

I have the Brother 4500, and had a lot of problems with my machine when I first got it. One of the problems was, I was using the very fine bobbin thread, often found on pre-wound bobbins. After having the machine calibrated for the different thread size, it fixed the problem. So you may have to have a little bit of tension adjustment with your bobbin thread to get it to work right, but then it should sew like a dream.

I do believe that the prewound bobbins are meant more for embroidery work than with sewing - but I don't sew much or use the prewound.

I have several Brother Emb. machines and love the pre wound bobbins. Haven't wound a bobbin since I got the pre wpund ones. I only use mine on the Emb. side so can't say how they are on sewing side. So much more thread on the pre wound ones compared to the wind your own ones. Only use the plastic ones since the sensor will not be able to read the cardboard ones. Best wishes. *4U

The prewound were a great find for me. They save so much time. They hold a lot more thread than I can ever wind on a bobbin myself. With embroidery that is particularly helpful. They feed perfectly so they sew very well.

At first I tried the Coats paper side but had a lot of bad ones and they cause a lot of lint in the bobbin area. Next I tried the NEBS plastic side and loved them. Eliminated almost all the lint buildup and they sew perfectly. I now use MetroEmb plastic side bobbins. They are less than half the cost of NEBS and I can't tell any difference in how they sew on any of my machines.

For regular sewing I can rewind the blank bobbins to use for colored thread and sewing.

I don't think you can go wrong with the prewound. I am anxious to hear what other 'Cuties' have to say about prewound. All may not be as sold on them as I am.

Same here. Never tried the paper ones but jumped straight to MetroEmb's plastic ones. I love the prewound bobbins and also use them for sewing assuming I am using white thread.
