I use plastic containers for threads, it is stored one top of the other.

I have the plastic containers, some boxes and a table/wall organizer. This seems to work for me, at least for now.

I guess I'm doing the same thing many others do. I have the stacked drawers with the clear fronts. I started keeping them by number but it got too confusing if the design didn't have a good color chart. So I sort by colors which I find very easy to work with. The drawers keep out the light, so no thread fade, and they keep out the dirt, so no nasties on the thread spools. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Should also mention that I have young children so I didn't want the threads to be a temptation to play with .. and avoid dust of course :) xXx

I use plastic drawer units (6 drawers total) sorted by colors. I am in Arizona so the dust here is just AWFUL - could not easily store on the beautiful racks others have (if I had the room for them).

My husband made me this. I mark each spool under the spool and on the top edge of the cone with the color number. Maybe a better way to mark the color but it works for me.

I have several plastic drawers, in the big boxes the big cones and small boxes the small ones, sort by colors too that way I can see right away the color I need, it works for me. I keep the boxes in my sewing closet to protect them from the sun and the salt I live very close to the ocean.

This is my storage, I tried the container thing but found it to time consuming so my sister and I took out the saw and drill and put this together last summer, I still need to install a covering at the top to protect it from dust but I have to say that with all the use they get, there is not much time to collect dust, LOL
Will be adding more shelves, new thread coming in soon,
Hope it gives you some ideas
hugs

Thanks, like it mentioned, I triedthe container way but found it to time consuming, this way i can easliy choose (or change) my colors and it takes seconds to take them down or put them away.

I have specialty made cabinets for my thread. And for my serger it is stored in clear cases. And I can see every color before opening it.

I have a large shoe shelf on which I have my large (5000) metre cones. It does not work as well as Sciencewidow's hooks agains the wall, because it keeps onfalling down and I do not have enough space beind my machines. I am going to put up something else against the wall, whereby I can just add extra hooks and it will serve me better. The rest of my treads are all in thread boxes, as well as mettlers spool holders. Those work really well.

I have several clear plastic thread boxes. Wal-Mart use to sell them and I have all my Isacord thread in OESD clear plastic boxes that hold 30 spools. At first I organized them by number than Isacord came out with new ones. Ofcourse I had to pick them up which messed up my order. Now, I organize by color. I'm a thread aholic. Thread are like crayons, I like to color (embroider) with a big box of 64+. LOL One more thing. I like the plastic boxes because they stay dust free too.

We like the "Really Useful Box" 11l and 11lXXL with tray Pack inside...Very useful and without dust on thread, which is necessary for FSL.

I store my threads in clear plastic shoe boxes which I stack in a book shelf. I have a box for each colour and the number on my cones is on the top of the spool so it is visible when I take the box out.

I do not have all that many like some Cuties, but I wrap them in strips of clear plastic so that it does not unroll and store them in wire drawers according to colours. I have a clear plastic big closed carry case for the small reels. All are kept in a cupboard out of the sun.

I forgot to say that I write the numbers on the plastic reel on top where you can easily see it.

I use clear plastic bins. Since I use Metro Thread I printed their color chart and taped a page inside the bin that shows the color + number that is in the bin. I chose to organize them by number rather than by color. It will be interesting to see how other cuties organize theirs.
