In my trying to make my sewing room tidier and putting all together in the one room. I have come across a large box of pure silk fabrics. They are all plain in colour and most of it is raw silk. Please do any of you have ideas of what to do with this great find? Thanks in advance

I would make a quilt. Probably a crazy quilt. But with a large box, you probably have enough to do several quilts!!! Since silk has such a brilliant color, it would be very striking to use in embroidery machine applique. Also, I have been told that silk pillow cases help keep your hair from getting so messed up during sleep, so perhaps a few pillow cases. Sounds like you are surrounded in luxury. If all else fails, put them up here for sale or to share; I bet you would get lots of takers. :) Enjoy your find!!!

Well, I've read all those great ideas and I like them but Me???? I'd make a quilt, cutting just plain squares from the silk, maybe 6" squares, then I'd assemble them in a way that brought out the colours best and stitch them together with a black sashing, providing one of the silk colours isn't black. That way I think they'd look like jewels on a black background. This combination would make a superb and very elegant bed quilt and you'd get to see the beauty every time you went into your bedroom. I wouldn't even attempt to embroider the squares but I'd just depend on the beauty of the fabric.

You can make cusions in patchwork. You have to iron on vliseline (stabilizer) on the wrong side. Then it is easy to work with

I guess I would have to ask if you know how to work with and are you comfortable sewing with silk! If it is the kind that can be washed than you have a lot more opportunuties. Dry cleaning or using wss may not be part of the plan. If I had a stash that was enough; I would make a collage quilt. Crazy is great too, however not my favorite! I have a collection of oriental prints, too bad they can't get togther, do some fabulous dresdan fans, even go so far as to add velvet to the mix! What ever you do with it! Have Fun! christine Live Laugh Download Stitch! I would definelty use a muslin backing and cotton stabilizer for embroidery and quilting!

Sound yummy - hope you got plenty of idea's - I know that I would use them on all sorts of in the hoop projects - tree or wreath - that sort of thing - but a crazy patch quilt would be so much fun and lovely, too.

You might want to try doing a crazy quilt with them. There's so many wonderful designs that piece the blocks right in the hoop. (Molly Mine is one site that comes to mind.) There's loads of others, too that I can't think of at the moment.
I've also seen some gorgeous scarves and table runners done in silk with touches of embroidery scattered here and there on them. Silk takes special handling, but the results can be stunning.
