No sewing today, too busy making Apricot Jam. I like jam and apricot is a favourite in our house, along with Marmalade [3 fruit].

When my kids were younger, I made just about everything. There was no bought bread or jam in our house (at the time, of course, they didn't appreciate it - now if I manage to make a batch of bread my oldest daughter seems to know and shows up and snitches one!).
If I made crabapple jelly, I could never keep it! My son loves it! Now that he has his own family and his in-laws found out how he loves crabapple jam/jelly they make sure they have some for him. I don't rem. ever trying apricot jam. Might have to get my things out and next time try that - sounds so good!!!!

Now this does sound like Christmas Time in Australia!!!
I can smell it now..... apricot jam simmering in a country kitchen. Boy, Oh Boy!!! does that bring back a stack of hot, sticky memories... :}
We can't get a decent apricot tree to grow on our property. We do have a decent orchard which is the mecca for every parrot in the area, though. Does that count???

I go crazy for apricot anything, but jam is way up the top of the list. My marmalade is now far below, either.

Ooh! Vicki - that's my favourite jam too! Funny I just love the Angas Park apricots and buy them here in Newcastle. I've just sent a pack of their goodies to my sister in Tumby Bay for Christmas. A great company to deal with if you want to send hampers. Love Chris

I have also just made a stack of both apricot and 3 fruit marmalade (orange/ lemon and grapefruit). I make the apricot in the microwave but unfortunately have yet to find a good recipe to make marmalade in the same way. I will be taking a load up to Johannesburg when we go for Christmas. Sarah

Well done making it micro, I wouldn't have thought of that. But it would take too long with 7 kg

mmmm - sounds good. My mother always did canning and making of jams. I only did what we call "freezer jam", and used the wild strawberries that grew on our land in North Carolina. Tiny little berries, but oh so good.

I still do some 'canning', but I call it bottling because the fruit is put in Vacola Jars with rubber rings and clips. Then cooked in a special big pot/drum thing to seal properly.

I'm with you and just finished off a jar or apricot jam. Only I didn't make it and yours probably tastes a lot better. My grandparents and my parents had lots of fruit trees (minus the one my brother mowed over on the tractor) and several types of berries. Now I have to get to our berries before the deer eats them all.

I had to buy the apricots, but we do have a huge mulberry tree which nearly always gives us more than we can eat. They will be ripe in a couple of weeks.

Are they white or Red mulberries?. G

Are the mulberries white or Red. G

vickiannette by vickiannette 08 Dec 2011

The mulberries are black when ripe, and red when not. they grow on a tree, not a vine and silk worms eat the leaves [but we have not had any silk worms since my children were at school in the 1980's

Oh - I ate mulberries when I was little back in Nebraska - my mother used to fuss at us, for we got that purple stain all over our clothes, and feet. Mmmm - fond memories of good things to eat.
