I would love to have some tips on how you set up your sewing room. My son and his fiance purchased and signed all the papers on Wednesday for their first home. Tomorrow is moving day. They will be living about 11 miles from where we live and about 3 miles from our other son. With that said I NOW will finally be able to have a room for sewing. I am so excited. I will be creating my sewing room. Wow, and we will finally have our dinning room back.

I am all about work stations and storage. I need at least 5 workstations for cutting and hooping, ironing, quilting, embroidery and serging! Have enough tools for each machine so you don't have to hunt!

My biggest asset in my sewing room are my hooks. I hang all my hoops and scissors there so I can find them straight away! Good luck with your sewing room it is fantastic to have one!

Congratulations on the gaining of a sewing room. My sewing room is constantly evolving but I know that one cannot have too much storeage space.

Congrats on getting a sewing room. My kind of evolved and changes as we move, but what I am most grateful for is storage space. Use the closet (hanging storage units are great) and shelving units and make them as high as you can. Let us see pictures when you finish.

Lucky you! I do have a room dedicated to craft but it is too small, I guess any room would be too small as we seem to collect lots of precious stuff. I have run out of room and use the hall cupboards as well. But it will be very exciting getting it all together. Hugs Sally

Cindy, I wish you luck in making your space work for you - the hardest part about all of this is - as the space is different than what you have been using - so you have to visualize it - before you move things into it. I love to have lots of light around my embroidery area, as has been mentioned before. If you have the space for your PC in there - then that could be a great help for you, too. No, two woman would design their space the same - but whatever you do - have it work for you. Keep your thread close by and a place for your hoops at hand. If you are going to be on carpet - you might also consider using those mats - to help protect your wheels from getting bogged down in the carpet and it also helps with thread clean-up. Good luck my dear and I do hope you share your room with us - when you have it just the way you want it.

I am excited for you. I would put machines where you have good light. I personally have my machines in the middle of the room forming a U pattern I use all the wall space for shelves, storage, etc. I don't think all that expensive machine furniture is necessary. Years ago , I did buy a nice cabinet and when I bought my next machine, I had to saw out additional hole as the knee lift would not fit. I did it all by my self and decided I would never buy a fancy cabinet again. You know , we up grade the machines every few years , but the sewing cabinets are forever!!! Kay

I use whatever pieces of furniture with flat surfaces and drawers are available, and cram it into my sons' former bedroom! It is tight quarters,..I still have a trundle bed in there... I am awaiting construction of a room in the "to be finished basement"... when ever that happens!:>)

I goggled in "sewing room pictures" and there are endless possibilities. For most of my friends have noticed we just use what is available around the house and add things as needed. If you have a wonderful budget there is the Kola system. Left an link so you can see how amazing this made for sewing room furniture is. I just had my sewing cabinet brought up from the basement and trying to settle into the warmer living room. Have fun with your new space and make it yours.
