Designs in Machine Embroidery had an article on this in one of their Christmas issues, Issue 53. Here's a link to the magazine, you can access the issue there and read the article on page 98. They cut and used wss on top.

Thanks for the artical. I thought about triming the fur before stitching and that is a no-no according to the artical. Very helpful and informative.
