Not sure about the Mac Computer part, but I know you can download designs from Windows XP to the Brother PEII without any aditional software.

That is good to know - I was beginning to get the impression (from reading all the software marketers' sires) that, without some kind of software, I wouldn't be able to do ANYTHING with my new machine!! Definitely going to "play" awhile & get acquainted first! Thanks!

Can you check with whom ever you purchased the machine from to see if it comes with any kind of software and what that software does?
If you want to download designs off the internet you would have to download the design format that your machine needs in order to stitch the design out.
Since your machine is a Brother I would think the format you would need would be the pes format.
As long as you can buy designs or download free designs in the pes format you may would not need the Convert It Mac program to start with.
The only time you would need the Convert It Mac program is if you have buy or download designs that are not in your machine design format and you want to use them then you would need to convert them to pes format for you machine.
The Embrilliance Essentials program may be one you might want to purchase as it would allow you to edit designs, resize designs and combine a number of designs into one design in the pes format.
I think it also comes with a few digitzed alphabets so you would be able to use them to add or combine lettering/wording to your designs in the Essential program and then stitch them out on your machine.
Not sure if this helps you or not.
Your machine manual will also help you but you won't get that until your machine arrives.
I do hope someone with this machine on the Forum here can answer your questions about what your machine will do for you.

THANK YOU!! I actually had that same thought about not necessarily needing Convert It MAc initially, & really like what I have been reading about Embrilliance Essentials - thanks for adding facts to my suppositions! My machine actually arrived (unexpectedly) today - I can't wait to get the manual out & begin studying!!
