Hi!! I am not even brand-new to the machine embroidery world - I have ordered a Brother PE700ii, but have not received it yet!! I am trying to assemble a few necessary supplies, so when it arrives, my daughter-in-law & I can jump right in!! I have seen that I will need 90 wt. bobbin thread, and Class 15/Style A bobbins. Is there a specific wt. of embroidery (top) thread that I must use, or that works better with this machine, or is it design-relative? I want to buy an assortment of colors of thread to have on hand, but sure don't want to spend $$ on thread I will not be able to use!

Thanks SO much for any input you can give these novices-to-be!! We are so very excited to be getting into machine embroidery!!

I have a Brother and it does not like Rayon thread. When I asked the dealer about that, he said most users say the same about Brother emb machines. I use Metro and machine loves it. Hugs & Welcome to Cute!!!

Wlecome to Cute Samantha. Brother machines are great I have 2. Have fun with your machine when it arrives. You can ask loads of questions here, there is no such thing as a daft question. We all learnt about machine embroidery at some point and have all done our fair share of mad things. Look forward to hearing more from you and seeing what you create in the projects area. Happy embroidery

I have this machine and I love it!!! I use Robinson-Anton Poly thread. I love it. It has a nice shine to it. I have PE design lite software, card and card writer. I think you can download a free version of My Editor to convert designs and resize designs. I only had trouble with this machine once and I think I was the cause. Then I took it to a dealer to be fixed and they messed it up worse so I sent it to another dealer. They fixed the problem and it has now been a year and I haven't had any more trouble. Don't forget to get some water soluble stabilizer to use on top when you work on towels or other things will a pile. You will love it. Don't forget to ask the "cuties" any questions. They are always happy to help and they have a wealth of knowledge! Welcome aboard!

welcome. There are lots of questions and will be lots of answers. Like anything else trial and error is best to see what is good on your machine. sign up for Jo-ann's mailer and watch sales on thread and kk2000 spray adhesive and stabilizers. I found them the best, but also have the metro poly thread. Good luck and live laugh download and stitch.

I already get their mailer - but live 90 minutes from the nearest Joann's. Then again - that may be a good thing, in the long run! ;)

In GA USA you can get lots of your supplies locally at a machine dealer or at JoAnn. JoAnn has a selection of embroidery threads (mostly rayon) and stabilizers so you can get a few things to get you started. I personally prefer Polyester thread from MetroEmb.com. I agree with jrob you will want some tear-away and cut-away to be able to try different things while you are starting to get addicted to this hobby. You will also need some designs - just go to the Designs By Cuties section for many that have been donated by generous Cuties. This site also offers a free design every day as do the sister sites of cutealphabets.com and amazingembroiderydesigns.com. Search for machine embroidery designs on google and after your head stops spinning, check out some other sites too. Welcome to Cute and to this wonderful hobby.

Pick up some basic tear-away stabilizer and cut away stabilizer to get started, too. There are numerous brands and I don't know what country or state that you are from so I can't advise you specifics.
Welcome to cute....I'm glad that you are here.;)

Welcome to Cute! I use cotton thread in both upper and bottom. It is not shiny and it does shrink in warm water, but I love it! I also use rayon and metallics for accent. There are sample kits Sulky Rayon on ebay for about $20.00. You can't go wrong with that. They even have a Christmas pack. I started with all-purpose thread, No problem! Live Laugh Download Stitch! christine

I appreciate the info on thread types - i had no clue what the differences are!! I have seen the sample kits - think I'll buy 1 or 2! My husband has no clue the can of (cute, embroidered) worms he has opened - this is my 30th anniversary present!! Oh, well - I'll make him a logo hat & he'll be happy!!

For most embroidery designs you will need 40 weight Embroidery thread either rayon or polyester embroidery thread for top thread.

Polyester embroidery thread can be bleached with Chlorine Bleach and washed in hot water.

Rayon Embroidery thread can not be bleached with Chlorine Bleach and has to be washed in warm and cold water.

First read your machine manual before attempting to use your machine.
You will need an assortment of different types of stabilizers too.

When you have questions ask here on the forum.

Thanks SO MUCH!! Very glad to know about different thread types & washing temps - that is IMPORTANT to know before I mess up something!! Yes, I will read the manual - probably 3-4 times (my retention is not as good as it once was!) I will likely have MANY questions - thank you in advance!! :)
