Sorry cannot answer your question. Hope by now things are running smoothly again. Good luck. Sarah.
I had this happen: Machine kept telling me motor overloaded and locking up. I tried all I could and then went to dealer. He laughed, pointed to the hand wheel and pointed out all the thread that had somehow wound up on the shaft! I felt so silly, I have never had that happen before. He pulled it all out and all was well. I now make sure NO thread dangles near the wheel and am careful about anything that might get tangled...just a thought, can't hurt to look there! Linda
Same thing happened to me, Called the Brother repair man, I had somehow broken one of the gears inside. But he repaired it & it came home next morning. Hugs, Judy
My Brother PC8500D locked up, needle would not go
up or down in the middle of a design stitching. When I pushed the start button, all I heard was a deep humming from the motor, but no needle movement. I cut my machine off, unplugged it, then took the small screwdriver and very carefully removed the screw holding the left side cover near the top left of the machine. This exposed the gears; then I could see where a stray thread had wrapped so tightly around the gears, they could not move. I carefully cut the wound thread and picked all the little pieces out with tweezers, as I cut. Once I had all this thread pulled from around the gears, I replaced the cover and the machine operated fine. I was so relieved! And, so glad I was able to fix it myself. It may be something to check on your machine to see if that's the problem?

The times my machine locked (3x) was because something was jammed below (2x) and once up top. The bobbin area has to be cleaned often, especially when using cotton. I also had to rest it - (it ws off a whole day waiting for my husband, also the spring that is triggered by the bobbin moving was pushed in so far - it did not spring. had to unscrew the mounting and fix it just right - too far - still won't work. Good Luck! i just have a SE350
Sue When my brother locked up it was because i ran it to many hours and the oilers were totally dry.Yours likely needs a drink to.You need to remove the cover and blow all dirt and link out (i use hubby compressor machine)then you need to oil all bearings then it will start to turn the handle as the oil sinks in it will release. My service man talked me through it the first time on my phone .It really is easy hope this helps Carolyn
XOX Carolyn, I took of the "head cover" on the sheep head side if you know what I mean and cleaned up and the bobbin area too. The other cover are not so easy to remove and the machine still has warranty so it is a drive to the shop tomorrow.
- grumbeling greetings Sue
gummbeling - if it was a stuck thread it should be loose know - oil jehhhr thats what we are thinking of too but nothing in the manual about oling or taking the covers of - mechanic needs oil - allllways, I am so in rage or unhappy because we can not solve it ourselfs - normaly we do just that - I could bite in wood -
HOPE YOU SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM, IT REALLY BOTHERS ME WHEN SOMETHING DOES NOT WORK, SO TAKE A BREAK AND GO BACK, I AM SURE IT WILL HELP. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR MACHINE.
Sometimes you have to unplug it to reset it, wait about 30 seconds before plugging it back in. Good luck! I hate when the machine won't cooperate.
thank you leenova, it is kind of a computer and I tried rest first mostly it is back to normal then for me too - not this time
This has happened to me before- scarry because I was a newbie. I was working with a thick vinyl making books for children and my machine wasn't happy with the thickness or the vinyl. Broke a ton
of needles, tension problems, bobbin issues and finally it jammed and locked.
First the machine was hot and bothered due to running to many hours.
I turned it off, cleaned out the bobbin, oiled everything I could see internally mechanical parts
let it rest and turned her back on and off a few times if I remember correctly and eventually got her
unlocked.
So now I never leave the room in which she is running, try to keep it to 3 hours and give her a break.
If doing cotton, clean after each hooping.
Felt aslo makes a mess so clean often. I even use a
vacuum with a straw adaptation (LOL) to get bits that fall in there and I can see but cant reach.
I'll watch the videos from Megans link later.
But I no longer have lock up troubles.
thank you I try all I can, reset, talk to , clean,
it was only 17xxx stiches and the first design of the day.

When my brother locked I pulled out the bobbin and bobbin case and cleaned all around and than moved the wheel by hand to see if it would move and it did. Hope this might help.
Well a dirty sight, cleaned out all the lint with my little eye lash (cosmetic) brush and put back together, a step further put problem not solved jet.
If I can#t fix it, hubby will later or tomorrow
