Am I the only one who just can't get motivated to do some stitching? I have been sick, but not that sick.

I think that the transition between summer and fall is depressing. And depression, even very mild, can keep you from what you used to love to do. Try rearranging your space, so that you don't see everything exactly the same as it was. Maybe that will help give you a boost. Good luck to all of you!!

I am right with you!! I had all these plans to get an early start on some Christmas gifts...then came my surgery on my eyes (one at a time) soon after a swellen foot that I could not get around on. Here I am in Oct. with NO Christmas gifts even started...now I am depressed about that. Yuh!! Guess my last 6 month or so are like that saying "If you want to hear The Lord laugh...tell him your plans." H&*

I'm feeling the same way. There's so much cleaning out that I need to do. I've even thought about getting rid of my machine and all sewing stuff!!! But that would be alot of money down the drain! But then, I'm not making anything doing this, so I'm not sure what I'll end up doing. I need to get motivated somehow!

Yes, it does seem that life is what gets in the way. I think since my hubby retired it has put a crimp in things.

leenova54 by leenova54 08 Oct 2011

I can dress him up but I can't take him out, lol, most of his shirts have food stains on the front!

I tend grandkids everyday, and I love them to pieces but I sometimes need a break

I have the same problem. I have sooo many ideas and things I want to make...but NO motivation or energy to do them. I've even had the doctor do testing to see if anything is wrong and all the blood work came back ok. I just can't get motivated at all, and I'm getting upset with myself because I HAVE to do some sewing and embroidery for Christmas! I have had problems for years with depression and I guess that is part of my problem. Maybe we should start a motivation club and urge others on!?! Hugzz and I hope you find the insperation and motivation you need!

Sweetie I think there are many of us in the same situation! I have also been suffering with depression BUT have decided that by taking ONE DAY AT A TIME I am going to do the things that I want/need to do. Cheer up love, take one small project at a time so that you dont become overloaded and your goodies for Christmas will start rolling off the sewing machine :)

terriweistra by terriweistra 08 Oct 2011

and the Christmas projects will start and hopefully your enthusiasm too. Good luck :)

I wonder - if you change the lighting in your sewing room or your whole place - if that would make a difference - my husband Rick came up with the idea to do that for me a couple years ago - we used those great enegry saver light that are like natural sunlight - daylight compact fluorecent - they come 4 in a pack at Home Depot - they are great - now that I am using them all the time - I don't mind if I can't see out our basement windows or not for light - I do miss the great outdoors and what you can view - but I get busy at times - that I wouldn't have been looking out the window anyway. It is something to think about and also - the one big thing that helps me - is start your machine with a project - before you sit down to the PC. It works - I tell you. Just one day at a time - spend 1/2 hour on projects - after a couple weeks spend an hour - before long - you find you can get alot of things done - while the machine is running. Let us know!

I have ideas going too but just can't seem to make any progress. I have a friend coming over in a week or so to see if she can fit any of the clothes I am getting rid of and then a trip to Salvation Army to part with them and maybe if my house is a little more in order I will get back to stitching. If my health were better I think I would feel better.

I would call it a process. When you get inspired you will start doing what you like to do. If whatever I'm doing and it isn't fun then I take a break from it.

I haven't embroidered anything since the voting fiasco. I had hoped that the other lady that had the most votes would at least be awarded the serger. We just did not have the votes on cute. I have felt a little down about how that ended.

Just after that happened I spent most of the day getting flu shots for my husband (wheelchair bound) and I. It shouldn't be that hard just to get flu shots in the US. It was a comedy of errors and computer systems incompatibilities. I was exhausted from that day. I would have been better off to have driven to B'Ham from Florence for the flu shots at our regular doctor there.

I have to get myself motivated again.

Being sick or on meds can fuzzy-up the mind... which makes it tough to think or be creative.
Get well, soon.

It seems that between hubby's doctors and hospital tests and mine I can't think of anything else. My appt. was for yesterday but I thought it was today so I was a no show, luckily they had a call off so I got in and they didn't even have the results of my last skull scan from 2 weeks ago!

jussyc by jussyc 06 Oct 2011

Oh Debra, your plate is certainly full. Lucky you could get another appt. Hope all is well. By the sounds of it you need. Rest & TLC, Hugs *

Often, I can't seem to get motivated to do things I normally thrive on, such as creating things. I think it is because in the back of my mind, I am pondering all the things I am not doing, that NEED to be done at the moment! Once I make myself finish a few of those demands, my spirit and creativity usually returns! Your enthusiasm will come back! We all get into a lull at times!

It took me most of the day to get a project started - something that my embroidery machine said would take me 39 minutes - an hour or so later - I got if finished. Almost a waste of time - but glad I tried it.

I had a productive September - not sure that October will be at all the same. Before that - I had a couple months of not getting to much of anything.

Oh Debra you catch me ;o)
The good (or bad) thing with customer-orders is that you have to stitch (motivated or not). At the moment I have some ideas but there are always orders that comes first.
At the moment I'm a little bit down cause I thought I can pay a private school here in town for Anna with my embroidery but now they screwed their entry-free up to 1000,-€ (plus 200,-€ for schooluniforms). That is to much :o(
They wanna 340,-€ every month and then you have to see all the extra-costs for examines etc. Anna is a brave girl (her best friend goes to that school and that is hard for her) so she understood that not by any stretch of the imagination we could pay that. I state her that we could pay 12 foster-sponsorships at PLAN for that money which mean food, medicin and school for those kids. So we make a deal: Instead of that expensive school I pay 3 sponsorships for her for girls in China, the Phillipines and latin America.
Now I have to kick myself in the a... and start to work :o) Enjoy your break and read a good book or start to crotch. I'm sure you wanna start again when christmas comes nearer *lol*
Greetings, Bettina

Thank you. We started the first sponsorship right now and Anna was so happy when the map about Haixia from China came on thursday. Wish that all this kids get foster-parents...

What a breath of fresh air you are Bettina - I am so happy to hear that you are teaching your daughter this sort of value of money. Way to go lady!

Debra You are not alone. My machine is sitting in front of me and I just can't make myself use it. Have been making my toys by hand. I don't know what everyone does with what they make.

Debra you are not the only one. You have made me think about this and I have just come to the conclusion it is not the sewing I am dodging but the basket of ironing I have in the sewing room. The general idea is to iron while the machine is working. So nothing is getting done, sewing OR ironing. I need to get off my bum and do something. Marg

Ironing -- What is that??? One of the joys of living alone.

airyfairy by airyfairy 06 Oct 2011

Oh Marg, I wish I could do your ironing for you!!! You will think I am totally mad but I love ironing. When I was younger I used to leave it and leave it but I now love it. Sarah.

ansalu by ansalu 06 Oct 2011

Sarah I will give you mine too. I just iron if it is really (!!!) necessary and than just fabric that I wanna use for embroidery. All the rest is for my husband cause I don't buy clothes for me or the kids that has to be ironed ;o) Hugs, Bettina

jussyc by jussyc 06 Oct 2011

Im agreat believer in "Iron it when needed" :)

noah by noah 06 Oct 2011

starlet2653 by starlet2653 06 Oct 2011

Ho dear, and I thought I was the only one who loves ironing. Welcome to the board, ironing ladies. I sometimes iron T-shirts and bed linen. How crazy is that???? Lol.

jussyc by jussyc 06 Oct 2011

Hate Ironing :( Id happily pay you to do mine noah & Sarah :) *

terriweistra by terriweistra 08 Oct 2011

So glad there are other who like ironing!! unfortunately I dont like housework & cooking!!!

leenova54 by leenova54 08 Oct 2011

I only iron if I absolutely have to. Last night I got 3 of hubby's denim shirts out of the dryer and asked if he wanted them ironed, he said it didn't matter so I told him I would hang them up and if he wanted one at some point to look nicer I would iron it then.

No you are not the only one, I have been trying to test stitch some designs all day, but I keep finding other things to do. The fact that we are moving house in 3 weeks means that I have plenty of distractions. I think sometimes you just need to leave it alone until the motivation comes back.

Well Alice, you have a perfectly good reason! Moving is busy work. I wish I was moving, I hate my house, we keep doing updates but I still hate it, too many steps and my knees and hips are hurting too much.

fannyfurkin by fannyfurkin 06 Oct 2011

That's no good, can't you move into a low set house?

justonlyme by justonlyme 09 Oct 2011

I would love to move too. I cannot get up the stairs, so I'm trapped inside. But my husband swears he'll die in this house.... Guess I'm stuck unless I hasten the process. :)
