Live & Learn I guess! I messed up big time.

A lady brought two baby blankets for embroidery, and needs them on Friday. Well, the pink one did not turn out so good. I forgot to check under the hoop to make sure everything was clear, and I ended up stitching the other end of the blanket also that was tucked in under the hoop.

Stitching on a commercial machine is a lot different than a home machine. I'm so thankful that she bought them local, and I was able to go and get another one. Guess I'm working for nothing today. ;(

That does happen, and if you are good at taking out stitches, you should be able to remolve that....and I learned this the hard way. It happened to me, and in taking out the stitches, I cut into the throw I was doing. I hope you can save this and do something with it.

What a pity it had happened to you! But I am "happy" to
learn that so many of us have their fears and worries
stitching for other people on finished items - I also
embroider only for the family without any money but still
it is stress and only a relieve when I find it is "well done" in the end
I love this community because all are so thoughtful and
not only the good things are shared but also the not so
successful ones which makes one feel a real honest group
of people with the same feelings.
Glad that you could get another one but sad for you for
all the worries and additional costs.
Hugs and love - Maria

These things happen to us all; sorry that we have to learn by our mistakes.
Keep up the good work though.

Thank you all for the comments, and the flowers. Bunches of flowers back to all of you.

I finished the two blankets, and she came and picked them up this afternoon. She was very please that I finished them so fast for her, that she gave me a nice tip. I didn't tell her what happend to the first pink blanket. That will be my dirty little secret.

I was going to post a photo of them in the projects, but I don't know how to do that anymore, It just show links and tabs. I will try to post a photo here instead.

Thank you all! (((HUGS)))

Oh dear, been there, done that. Fortunately the stabilizer I used was thick enough so that I could unpick all the embroidery without any damage to the article.

I am so sorry this happened. Fortunately you were able to get another blanket. I guess we all do stuff like that at one time or another.

I am terrified to embroider anything pre-made or owned by someone else because I am afraid of having something like that happen (or worse). I had a troublesome machine that would not produce acceptable results for the first 6 months that I owned a machine though, so that has made me a little gun shy. That is good that you were able to get a replacement and fix it for your customer. Your imagination may take you far in salvaging the remains of your "oops blanket". I hope you come up with something so fantastic that it was worth ruining that one so you had something to experiment with. Good luck!!

Ho I know what you mean ...My machine was doing great and then Iwent to put he name and my machne ate it and I had to cut a hole in the blankey to get it out...Now I trying to figure out if I can applicate over the hole and then cover the back????

Mary Ann, so happy to hear that you were able to replace the blanket and start again - it is so frustrating to mess up and not make any money. Keep on stitching. *4U

OOps!!!! Just as well you could get another one. This is why I HATE embroidering on things other people have bought. I only embroider for family members. But it is still a worry.

Oh dear, been there done that, I try to be in the habit of running my hands under the hoop when I put it in the machine but even then I still forget sometimes. You are right it is so much easier to make a big mess faster on a commercial machine, I still hold my breath when I unhoop waiting for that sinking feeling of not being able to get the hoop out because I have sewn the item together.
It is fortunate that you could get another one, I would hate to try and get the stitching out of that satin.

What an awful discovery. glad you were able to get another one and get it done. maybe you can just cut off all the binding and redo it out of some "satiney" fabric, much llike you would bind a quilt. Then you would have a "gift" on hand when you need one.

So glad you could get to do another one - isn't that a frustrating thing to happen? It hopefully turned out fine, love and blessings Chris

Have done this while sewing a garment but with the teeny tiny embroidery stitches they are hard to get out. Maybe you can put a new edge on or make some kind of label and use it for something else.

Been there and done that.... but not exactly the same.... It is almost as bad as serging something and getting the body into the serger and cutting a huge slash in the body of the material..... There is no way to fix that!

It does cause you to be more careful next time. LOL

Oh dear, thank goodness you could cover your mistake by purchasing another blanket. You are most certainly not the first and wont be the last to do that. I messed up someones blouse the other day by embroidering the front to the back and I couldnt unpick it!!!!

16251
by susiesembroidery 21 Sep 2011

Oh, dear me, I have had that as well. Then, on top of all, I had a sports shirt, that I could not replace with anything, and had to upick everything and put some material at the back to hold the new stitching together. It did not turn up too bad, but it was unfotunately not the best work and I lost a contract. So, hopefully, out of all of this we learn life's most expensive lessons!!!!!Hugs and kisses and a flower for you.

Chalk it up to experience, and you can use the blanket for test stitching!

Oh Mary Ann, that is a pity. You could use this blanket to do little comfie/feel blankets and sell them to make up on your loss.

Oh my I've also done this but luckily it was on one of my own sweatshirts and not for someone else. Since it was ruined I took out what I could and use it for a yard work shirt when it gets cold enough outside. so glad you could replace it. Hugs and a *4U
